The Men we Are
In this episode, we explore why modern men often feel more comfortable with irony than sincerity, and what that reveals about vulnerability, pride, masculinity, and emotional expression. Inspired by readings of Dracula and Frankenstein, we examine how men once articulated devotion with conviction and why that language now feels uncomfortable or even embarrassing. Drawing on the work of Brené Brown, Erving Goffman, and Bell Hooks, we discuss emotional exposure, fear of humiliation, authentic connection, and the hidden costs of self-protection. Together, we explore whether courage is not the absence of vulnerability, but the willingness to care deeply despite the risks.
