What do you do when your entire future changes in an instant? In this episode of Thought Atlas, I’m joined by Ken Kunken—attorney, disability advocate, rehabilitation counselor, and author of I Dream of Things That Never Were: The Ken Kunken Story. At twenty years old, while playing football at Cornell University, Ken suffered a spinal cord injury that left him almost completely paralyzed from the shoulders down. Many believed his life as he knew it was over. Instead, he returned to Cornell, became the university’s first quadriplegic graduate, earned advanced degrees in education, psychology, and law, spent more than four decades serving as an Assistant District Attorney in Nassau County, built a family, and dedicated his life to expanding opportunities for others. Together, we explore: • Resilience after catastrophic injury • Redefining purpose • Disability and accessibility • Mindset and perseverance • Building a meaningful life • Family and relationships • Leadership through adversity • Public service • Overcoming limitations • What courage looks like over a lifetime This isn’t simply a conversation about surviving tragedy. It’s about refusing to let one moment define the rest of your life. 🌍 Thought Atlas https://joinpodmatch.com/thoughtatlas [https://joinpodmatch.com/thoughtatlas] 🌍 Ken Kunken https://kenkunken.com/ [https://kenkunken.com/] Learn more about Ken Kunken, his memoir, and his lifelong work in disability advocacy by visiting his official website.

Why Smart People Still Make Bad Decisions | Michael Lukich

Why do intelligent people still make poor decisions? In this episode of Thought Atlas, I’m joined by Michael Lukich—analytics executive, former adjunct professor, longtime poker player, and author of The Stoic Systems Thinker. After a difficult personal season and a failed business venture, Michael returned to the writings of the ancient Stoics and discovered striking similarities between Stoic philosophy and modern systems thinking. Both explore how perception, feedback loops, emotional regulation, and unintended consequences shape the decisions we make every day. Together, we explore: • Stoicism and modern life • Systems thinking • Better decision-making • Probability and uncertainty • Lessons from poker • Emotional regulation • Feedback loops • Purpose and meaning • Why intelligence isn’t enough • Building a life that works beneath the surface This isn’t simply a conversation about philosophy. It’s a conversation about seeing the hidden systems that shape our thinking—and learning how to make wiser decisions because of them. 🌍 Thought Atlas https://joinpodmatch.com/thoughtatlas [https://joinpodmatch.com/thoughtatlas] 🌍 Michael Lukich https://stoicsystemsthinker.com [https://stoicsystemsthinker.com/] Michael shares essays and a free newsletter exploring Stoicism, systems thinking, and decision-making. She’s Using AI to Solve One of Africa’s Biggest Financial Problems | Amen Divine Ikamba

What happens when hardworking people are locked out of the financial system—not because they’re irresponsible, but because traditional credit systems can’t see them? In this episode of Thought Atlas, I’m joined by Amen Divine Ikamba, founder and CEO of the Pan-African Credit Intelligence Network (PACIN). Growing up in Rwanda, Amen saw capable people denied access to credit simply because they lacked conventional financial records.
