Utaara Mootu is an MP representing the Landless People’s Movement in the National Assembly. Utaara has been an unmistakable voice since 2020, after making an unexpected debut in the National Assembly at the age of 24. We had a great conversation about the intersection of art and politics, and the pressures of being one of the youngest voices in the halls of power.

We talked about how important it is that our leaders represent young voters, which often means actually listening when they speak.

Today we’re talking to Johanna Hipangelwa, and it’s such a pleasure to speak to a young voter! Johanna studied political science at the University of Namibia, and she’s really interested in prioritising young people in decision-making processes, and bridging generational divides. And considering the average age of our elected leadership and those running for office, that’s a pretty urgent conversation we need to have.

Ally is a chartered accountant, the former Accountant General of Namibia, and previously headed the National Treasury.
