He used social media to recruit young, vulnerable Black creatives, selling them a dream of a “Black utopia.” He urged them to leave the United States, drop out of "grind culture," and return to a pure, communal life in nature. But the dream quickly soured. Moving his followers across remote pockets of Central and South America, Bishop transitioned from a fatherly spiritual guide into a textbook cult leader.
