Descripción

True crime fans love to believe every case wraps up in an hour. Nancy Guthrie's case proves that theory wrong, and the note her family received may be the reason why.  She was eighty-four when she vanished from her own home overnight. Blood was found on her porch, a masked man was caught on her doorbell camera, and in the months since, her family has been sent more than one note claiming responsibility. Some were fake. At least one reportedly was not, and it may say more than investigators are ready to confirm publicly.  Tony Brueski and the Hidden Killers team use this case to pull back the curtain on how real investigations actually work, why federal and local law enforcement don't operate like a single unit on a procedural drama, and why the FBI is still framing this as a kidnapping-for-ransom case despite physical evidence that complicates that theory. The show lays out its own read on what happened, built on the timeline, the notes, and what's been confirmed so far.  There's also a hard conversation about why a case like this one gets national attention because of a daughter's public career, while thousands of other missing-persons cases go completely uncovered every single year. Nancy Guthrie's daughter has spent six months grieving in public and still showing up to work, and the show looks at what that's actually costing her.  This is what a real investigation looks like when the answers refuse to come on schedule.  Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ [https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/]  Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Why Everyone Ignored Nick Reiner's Warning Signs

True crime audiences always ask the same question after a case like this: how did nobody see it coming? Nick Reiner's case might be the clearest answer yet, because reportedly, people did see it. They just went home anyway.  Nick is accused of stabbing his parents, director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, to death in their own Brentwood home nine months ago. Hours earlier, according to reporting, he and his father argued at a holiday party. Other guests noticed his appearance and behavior. Nobody intervened. Tony Brueski and the Hidden Killers team use this case to talk about how a pattern of behavior, reportedly present since Nick's childhood, becomes so familiar to the people around it that it stops registering as a threat at all.  The show also breaks down the legal reality behind an insanity defense, something already being discussed online, and why the standard for proving it in California is close to impossible to meet, even with a documented history of addiction and reported mental health struggles. The team explains what "functional" actually means in a legal sense, and why living an outwardly normal life can work against a defendant trying to argue they didn't understand what they were doing.  There's also a broader conversation about compassion, boundaries, and why the parents who love someone the most are so often the ones least able to hold a firm line, plus what role friends, extended family, and even strangers at a party could play if they trusted their own instincts a little more.  Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty. His preliminary hearing is now set for September.  Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ [https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/]  Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? D4vd Named His Breakout Hit WHAT — Before Getting Charged With Murder?

D4vd case — David Burke made his name with a song title that now reads like something out of a prosecutor’s filing. His debut album, released two days after prosecutors say Celeste Rivas Hernandez was killed, has a name that lands differently after the charges. A 2025 music video depicts imagery that mirrors the prosecution’s allegations. This episode examines the art, the charges, and whether any of it matters at trial. It [http://trial.It] also examines a seven-month gap between the discovery of remains and the arrest. Three grand juries. A close friend who fled across the country to avoid testifying. Burke’s own parents who challenged subpoenas in a Texas court rather than answer questions about a child who visited their home. The DA filed first-degree murder with special circumstances: lying in wait, financial gain, murder of a witness. Illegal material involving minors found on his iCloud. Forty terabytes of evidence. The preliminary hearing begins July 21, 2026. Why Nolan Wells And Nancy Guthrie's Cases Just Collided

This episode ties together two cases making headlines for very different reasons — Nolan Wells and Nancy Guthrie. Nolan Wells, the eighteen-year-old left behind on Horn Island over the Fourth of July, now has a judge connection complicating things: one of the friends who left him is the son of a sitting Jackson County judge, and both the judge and the friend group have gone silent since. We break down what it means that investigators asked for a voluntary phone surrender instead of forcing the issue with a subpoena.  Then there's Nancy Guthrie, still missing after six months, where a separate case just closed. A California man pleaded guilty to sending the Guthrie family fake bitcoin ransom demands while the active search for her continued, and received only five years of probation — a sentence retired FBI special agent Jennifer Coffindaffer flatly called a travesty. We also go through the TMZ Twelve extortion notes investigators believe are mostly hoaxes, and the two communications — one demanding ransom, one a strange apology — that agents are treating as real.  Two very different families, two investigations, and the same nagging question about how accountability actually works in cases like these. We lay it all out — the boat, the judge, the phones, the sentence, and the notes.  New episode is up now — link below.  Social Links & Legal Footer  Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ [https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/]  Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? D4vd Used a Fake Name on Amazon — but Shipped Everything WHERE?

D4vd case — prosecutors say David Burke used the alias “Victoria Mendez” to order items from Amazon in the weeks after Celeste Rivas Hernandez was allegedly killed. The destination for every package: his own Hollywood Hills address. The fake name protected nothing. Amazon has records. Delivery drivers have GPS logs. Investigators have forty terabytes of evidence.According to prosecutors, the alleged cover-up included an album release party the day after the alleged murder, a shovel ordered via Postmates that morning, geotagged Instagram content on a date investigators say remains were dismembered, and a Tesla parked on a Hollywood street for over a month with what was allegedly inside. Multiple friends and associates reportedly noticed a strong smell of decay and said nothing. The case broke open when a tow yard worker noticed the smell. This is the second of three parts in a Hidden Killers investigation that traces every alleged move and every digital receipt David Burke allegedly left behind.
