For my first podcast episode of the year back in January I shared all about planning for 2026 when we don’t know what our capacity will be [https://yoursimpleandspaciousbusiness.substack.com/p/planning-for-2026-when-you-dont-know]. I entered this new year with so much clarity around my creative desires, for the mini book of essays that I want to write and self-publish, for the first draft of my novel that I want to chip away at this year, and the app my husband and I are working on together too. And I also knew that I would have to be okay with the messy, imperfect, and beautiful road that I walk down as a human who lives in a chronically ill body. Because the gap between my creative desires and my capacity can feel so huge some days. In this week’s podcast episode I recorded a catch up from Q1 in my business and creative work; I share how business is feeling really good so far this year and what’s working well and how I’m adjusting my mindset and approach to expanding what my body of work can be this year too as I continue to slowly work on my creative projects. More than anything, I hope this episode helps you feel less alone if you’re also navigating a gap between your desires and your capacity too and that you know that it’s possible to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you truly wish to be next in your business and creative life without sacrificing your joy, peace, and wellbeing in the process. Sometimes we just have to be okay going at a slower, gentler, more flexible pace. The five key decisions that built my simple & spacious business 🌾

My business hasn’t always been this simple & spacious. I used to be overbooked, undercharging, and deeply burned out in my work each week. It’s taken a whole lot of intention, patience, and experimentation to design my business to work best for me and I’m so damn grateful to have built a working life for myself that feels aligned with my capacity and the daily life that I want to be living. There are five key decisions that have supported me to build, run, and sustain this simple and spacious business of mine and in today’s podcast episode I dive deeper into each of them and offer up some lessons learned if they can support you in your own simple and spacious business journey too.m Links: Sign up for the free simple & spacious clinic [https://jencarringtoncoach.myflodesk.com/clinic] Watch the quarterly planning call recording [https://jencarrington.substack.com/p/the-simple-process-that-has-supported] Join the waitlist for Your Simple & Spacious Business [https://www.jencarrington.com/yoursimpleandspaciousbusinessprogram] Recent episode about my 8-10 hour workweek [https://yoursimpleandspaciousbusiness.substack.com/p/is-a-simple-and-spacious-business] Do I regret making my group program a lifetime offer? How I’m taking 4 months off from my business this year 🗓️

Something I’ve been thinking a lot about recently is how much de-centering my business has been one of the most supportive decisions I’ve ever made in my working life. Don’t get me wrong, I am so damn grateful for my business and so devoted to doing my best work for the wonderful humans I get to walk with each week. But I’m also not obsessed with my work, or endless growth, or defining my self-worth by how much I get done each week. We get to build businesses that orbit our life, not the other way around. And we get to do this whilst also running businesses that sustain our life financially and give us space to do work that we find meaningful and fulfilling too. One of the ways I do this in my business? By taking regular time off throughout the year. This year I’m taking 15 weeks off from my business and in this week’s podcast episode I’m sharing more about how I make this possible and some encouragement for how you can build more time off into you schedule too. Is a simple & spacious business unrealistic? 🌸

I received an emailed recently from someone asking if I outsourced any tasks to a virtual assistant in my business as they just couldn’t believe that I was able to sustain my business in just 8-10 hours a week. And their question makes sense. My workweek isn’t the norm. But as I shared with them, apart from my husband editing my podcast episodes each week there is nothing else that I outsource in my business. 8-10 hours a week is truly what my workweek looks like whilst continuing to make a steady and thriving income in my business. I’m also not outsourcing any of my work tasks to AI (everything I write, create and share with you is and always will be human made). In this week’s podcast episode I dive deeper into the specifics of what my workweek looks like, the decisions I’ve made to make this possible, and some encouragement if you’re currently craving more spaciousness and don’t believe that it’s possible for you. Does it take time, patience, curiosity, and one brave decision at a time to make this possible? Of course. But we don’t have to stay stuck in a version of our business that asks us to abandon our humanness to sustain our work. Do I regret making my group program a lifetime offer? 💫

Four years ago when I first built and launched my group program Your Simple & Spacious Business I made a very gut driven decision to price it as a lifetime offer. Instead of needing to continue to renew and pay to keep access to all of the resources, coaching, and community inside members pay just once and then continue to get access at no extra cost. Do I have any regrets? No. Even though I know I’d make more money if existing members had to continue to keep paying, and therefore need to do less marketing to welcome brand new members in each year, I’m so glad that I priced the program this way. But does that mean that I recommend this pricing structure to everyone else? Not really. And would I do it again for a different offer? I don’t think so. In today’s podcast episode I dive deeper into all of this and share all of my feelings, thoughts, and lessons learned from pricing an offer this way and why it’s the best worst business decision I’ve ever made.
