EXCLUSIVE: Fresno County Supervisor Garry Bredefeld discusses how the 'Better Roads, Safe Streets' initiative failed its random sampling test of the signatures submitted by backers. The initiative will now have to undergo a manual tally of all 32,000 signatures to qualify for the ballot. However, the timeline is tight and it's not sure it will make it to the ballot. Gavin Newsom urged drivers to avoid Chevron stations over Memorial Day weekend, arguing the company’s branded gas costs significantly more—often 60 to 80 cents per gallon higher than unbranded alternatives. He said cheaper, unbranded fuel comes from the same sources and meets the same standards, accusing “Big Oil” of profiting during global supply disruptions and warning consumers not to overpay just for the brand. Critics point out that most Chevron stations are independently owned. Chevron is fighting back with signs and stations that put the blame on Sacramento. ARMED SUSPECT Targets Fresno City Attorney’s Home Amid Troubling Criminal Past

Surveillance video obtained by KMJ news partner ABC30 shows a man armed with a knife approaching Fresno City Attorney Andrew Janz’s home around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, ringing the doorbell before moving into the backyard and banging on a back door. Fresno County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested the man.  Court documents show the suspect is ‘angry’ about failed restraining orders against Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto, and a probation officer. Janz said he never had prior personal contact but his office defended the city in the Casto petition. “That is why we believe that he came to my house this weekend, in the middle of the night." The suspect has a long history with the court — 21 felony and misdemeanor convictions dating back to 1988. The charges include elder abuse, sexual assault, and several DUIs. Torrez served jail time for the tear gas possession, released from prison in 2024, according to court records.
