EOFY Sales, Bad Neighbours, and a Very Important Duck [Episode 30]

A duck pecked the President of Mexico, got a Netflix meeting, and was personally rejected by FIFA - all in the same fortnight. That's this week's spiral, and it's not even the weirdest story. Han is recording from her parents' house where the school holidays are in full swing, the hormones have staged at least one coup, and a child has been caught stroking a face with a ripped-off toenail during Harry Potter. Normal week, really. In The Weekly Spiral: Merlín, the two-year-old duck who became Mexico's unofficial World Cup mascot, pecked President Claudia Sheinbaum at a press conference, had a meeting at Netflix, was personally rejected by FIFA on health and safety grounds, and watched Mexico win 3-0 from outside the stadium. We also get into the Trump Patriot Passport - the limited-edition commemorative document featuring a very stern portrait of the sitting president, a slogan that doesn't appear anywhere on it, and Gavin Newsom's all-caps clapback that nobody needed and everyone deserved. Plus: a Reddit story about a woman who called the police on her neighbour for parking in his own driveway, and the greatest petty revenge stories the internet has to offer. Philsy takes The HyperFix this week with a full EOFY sales breakdown - which brands are actually worth your time, where to stack your discounts, and why the ShopBack app might be the most underrated thing on your phone. Han runs The SideQuest: a game called Lies The Poster Never Told You, where she reads brutally honest movie summaries and Philsy has to guess the film. Philsy wins. Her prize is a title that means nothing because they're not in the same room. Explicit, feral, occasionally educational, and accidentally therapeutic. See you next Tuesday. 💋 CHAOS CORRECTIONAL (FACT CHECK CORNER) Stick around after the outro for Chaos Correctional - where Han cleans up the confident nonsense we said on air with just enough research to be dangerous. This week we correct: * Whether The Sheep Detectives is Hugh Jackman's highest grossing film (it is not, not even close) * Whether a toilet seat is actually cleaner than under your toenails (it is and we're not okay) * Whether emu oil does anything for your skin (yes, annoyingly, the science is real) * Whether Trump is genuinely the first president ever on a US passport (first living president - nuance matters) * Whether Schapelle Corby can profit from anything related to her crime (she cannot, and there is $128,000 of court history to prove it) * Whether anyone publicly corrected Trump on the passport slogan (yes, just not to his face) * How many Americans actually don't have passports (about half - less dramatic than implied, still a lot) LINKS & THINGS WE MENTIONED 🍷 Recap & Rosé * Sheep Detectives - currently on Stan/Prime Video [https://www.primevideo.com/salp/thesheepdetectives] * ADHD medication and the menstrual cycle - ADDitude Magazine [https://www.additudemag.com/adhd-and-periods-menstrual-cycle-hormones/?srsltid=AfmBOoosyxoCNn_D08cRictSu1juC9AbqbWMldXUoiZHBq_Rels3JuFi] 🌀 The Weekly Spiral * Merlín the duck - Guardian [https://www.theguardian.com/football/2026/jun/24/merlin-duck-mexico-world-cup] * The Trump Patriot Passport - Guardian [https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jun/27/trump-america-250-passports-democrats] * The driveway Reddit story - TwistedSifter [https://twistedsifter.com/2026/06/get-out-of-your-own-driveway-stunned-homeowner-left-reeling-after-entitled-neighbor-calls-the-cops-because-he-refused-to-move-his-car/] 🛍️ Philsy’s EOFY Cheat Sheet - download here [https://grabherbythemic.com/Downloads/Grab%20Her%20By%20The%20Mic%20EOFY%20Cheat%20Sheet.pdf].  ❤️‍🔥 Obsession of the Week * Han’s 13-in-1 Planetarium Projector Nightlight - Amazon [https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0C8BFT4G9/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B0C8BFT4G9&pd_rd_w=rub8n&content-id=amzn1.sym.3502e6a4-8d5c-4df7-ba67-01d1f8d2e697&pf_rd_p=3502e6a4-8d5c-4df7-ba67-01d1f8d2e697&pf_rd_r=DH1XN393H6B4KWBF14R7&pd_rd_wg=f5r23&pd_rd_r=58d76a04-3ee4-49d6-8c79-63d58d77d43d&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWw] (approx $70) *  Philsy: Simply Wholesome Nourish Pouches - from Woolworths [https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/103548?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=WW-0001&cq_net=x&cq_src=GOOGLE&cq_cmp=SUPC-0001_Always+On_Performance-Max__Food+%26+Beverages_Search_Conversion_8458_815925_FY26_L3_Buy_National-AU&cq_med=23969020697&cq_plac=&cq_term=&ds_adt=pla&cq_plt=gp&cq_gclid=CjwKCAjwpK3SBhASEiwAtV1SPAddFr1amyPwMan1EbFvd5PSoWDle0Uv1lnEqGDRMddKaAU3m0v4gBoC6k4QAvD_BwE&ds_de=c&ds_pc=online&ds_cr=&ds_tid=&ds_locphys=9071935&ds_pid=103548&gclsrc=aw.ds&&cmpid=smsm:ds:GOOGLE:SUPC-0001_Always+On_Performance-Max__Food+%26+Beverages_Search_Conversion_8458_815925_FY26_L3_Buy_National-AU:&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23963995623&gbraid=0AAAAACoj6t5mLu9I6AsWto0ZH52L_Wdib&gclid=CjwKCAjwpK3SBhASEiwAtV1SPAddFr1amyPwMan1EbFvd5PSoWDle0Uv1lnEqGDRMddKaAU3m0v4gBoC6k4QAvD_BwE]

We Got A Job Ad From A Chinese Zoo And Honestly It Sounds Better Than Our Last Careers [Episode 29]

Han found her dream career change this week: not Head of People, not podcaster - bear. A Chinese zoo is hiring humans to wear bear costumes and over 100 people already applied. This week on Grab Her By The Mic, a zoo in China is openly hiring humans to dress as black bears - six hour shifts, purring only, no ventilation in the costume. Canada has given trees legal rights, prompting the internet to ask "can a tree sue me?" And an Australian business called Rat Gizzard Oddities has gone viral for selling lingerie with actual taxidermied rats sewn onto them. They are called LingeRATs. That is a pun. Someone made a rat pun and then made the product. They are classified as art collectibles and cost $190. International shipping available. The HyperFix this week is Philsy’s journey down the day in the life content rabbit hole - why we can't stop watching strangers make porridge and go for four kilometre walks, what emotional gap it's actually filling, and the moment she realised watching someone else's perfect morning routine was making her feel terrible about her own pile of laundry. Relatable. Painful. Extremely on brand. The SideQuest is Would You Rather Work There - five real jobs that actually exist and a couple of made up ones that Philsy has to say yes or no immediately. Armpit sniffer (60 per hour, benefits unknown), tree rights lawyer, professional bed tester (under observation), vomit collector at a theme park, and the bear job. Her answers will not surprise you. They will disappoint you. Han would take all five and she said what she said. Obsession of the Week: Philsy is on mouth tape for sleep and Han has a lot of thoughts about her husband. Han has watched Office Romance on Netflix twice this week and is not taking questions. Brett Goldstein wrote a romcom specifically for his celebrity crush Jennifer Lopez, cast himself as her love interest, and it genuinely feels like a proper romcom in a way we haven't had since the early 2010s. Rated R. Slightly raunchy. Highly recommended. Explicit, feral, and occasionally educational. See you next Tuesday. 💋 CHAOS CORRECTIONAL (FACT-CHECK CORNER) Stick around after the outro for Chaos Correctional - where Han cleans up the confident nonsense we said on air with just enough research to be dangerous. This week we correct: * What type of bear the Chinese zoo was actually hiring for * Whether Quebec is actually French (it's complicated) * The full story of the famous tree that got chopped down (it's called the Sycamore Gap tree and it sprouted back) * The dinosaur tree near Bowral Hospital and whether it's in Glebe Park * Why rats on the lingerie (we tried) * Girth vs birth: a correction that should not have been necessary * Whether mouth taping is actually one of the number one things you can do for your health (the science says: maybe, but calm down) * How your phone actually knows your REM sleep data LINKS & THINGS WE MENTIONED 🍷 Recap & Rosé * Swinging Bridge Shiraz [https://swingingbridge.com.au/product/2023-william-j-shiraz] - Orange, NSW (Han's Recap & Rosé) * Clipper Tea [https://www.clipper-teas.com/] - bleach-free, plastic-free tea bags (Philsy's Recap & Rosé recommendation) 🌀 The Weekly Spiral  * Luohe Wildlife Zoo black bear job ad - South China Morning Post [https://www.scmp.com/news/people-culture/trending-china/article/3357986/china-zoo-offers-us15000-annual-salary-bear-costume-performer-strict-silence-clause] * The 2023 Hangzhou Zoo sun bear incident [https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/sun-bears-at-a-china-zoo-have-divided-the-internet-this-expert-is-sure-theyre-real/wlobhtru9] - the origin story of China now openly hiring humans as bears * Terrasse-Vaudreuil tree rights resolution - The Independent [https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/canada-trees-rights-quebec-montreal-b3000285.html] * Rat Gizzard Oddities LingeRAT - VICE [https://www.vice.com/en/article/this-australian-boutique-is-selling-lingerie-with-real-taxidermied-rats-sewn-on-the-crotch/] 😍 Obsession of the Week  * Triple Z Mouth Tape [https://zzzone.com.au/products/zzzone-mouth-tape-for-sleeping] (mouth tape for sleep) * Skin Gym [https://www.skingymco.com/products/mouth-tape-30-pack?srsltid=AfmBOopw1MwDKxD8HkqEw7WqayXLrZhsv-7VZ6ONuNkJKBFe1kXeERWX] lip-shaped mouth tape * DreamWave Pillow Speaker [https://radoxtech.com/products/dreamwave%E2%84%A2-pillow-speaker] (sound goes under your pillow, pressure activated) - Han impulse bought on Instagram Stories * Office Romance - Netflix [https://www.netflix.com/au/title/81939823], starring Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein, written by Goldstein and Ted Lasso co-writer Joe Kelly 🐰 Research Rabbit Hole * Sleep Foundation mouth taping article - Mouth Taping for Sleep: Does It Work? Taylor Swift's Easter Eggs, Spy Turtles, and a World Cup Ball That Went Rogue [Episode 28]

The CIA spent $20 million surgically wiring a cat for espionage. It got hit by a taxi on its first mission. That's just one of the true stories in this episode - plus Han's deep dive into Taylor Swift's Easter eggs. This week on Grab Her By The Mic, Han goes fully forensic on Taylor Swift's Easter eggs for The HyperFix, and honestly, we're not okay. It started with the Toy Story 5 countdown that appeared on Taylor's website for approximately ten minutes before disappearing and being called "a mistake" by her team. Sure. In The Weekly Spiral: China has warned citizens to be on the lookout for suspicious turtles, a giant World Cup ball escaped its anchors in El Salvador, and Gen Z is speedrunning Scientology buildings in Minions costumes. The SideQuest this week was "Wow, Okay" - two rounds of the same phrase delivered in different emotional registers, escalating from supportive to flirty to wildly off-script. Obsession of the Week: Philsy's slow cooker chorizo bean soup, and Han's Loop earplugs, purchased specifically to survive Mabel's frequency. Explicit, feral, occasionally educational and accidentally a Taylor Swift fan podcast.  See you next Tuesday. 💋 CHAOS CORRECTIONAL (FACT-CHECK CORNER) Stick around after the outro for Chaos Correctional - where Han cleans up the confident nonsense we said on air with just enough research to be dangerous.  This week we correct: * When Project Acoustic Kitty actually happened (not Trump) * Whether you need a licence to own a turtle in Australia (yes, more paperwork than a passport) * Whether El Salvador is actually hilly (confirmed, the ball had physics on its side) * How they caught the giant inflatable ball (they didn't, it caught itself) * Whether the Opalite music video came out before Toy Story 5 was announced (yes, and it makes the whole thing weirder) * Where Gwyneth Paltrow's luxury apartment building actually is (Herzliya, Israel - not New York, the car cannot drive across the ocean) LINKS & THINGS WE MENTIONED 🧠The HyperFix * Fans Are Convinced Taylor Swift Just Dropped a Major TS12 Easter Egg in Her Masters Announcement - AOL [https://www.aol.com/fans-discovered-ton-clues-hinting-113300641.html] * Taylor Swift’s Grammys 2025 Dress Contains a Huge Easter Egg - AOL [https://www.aol.com/taylor-swift-grammys-2025-dress-010200275.html] * Taylor Swift’s 'The Life of a Showgirl' Has Shocking Easter Eggs About Travis Kelce, Charli XCX, and More - AOL [https://www.aol.com/articles/taylor-swift-life-showgirl-shocking-162800314.html]  * All the Easter Eggs Taylor Swift Dropped About Doing the Super Bowl Halftime Show - AOL [https://www.aol.com/easter-eggs-taylor-swift-dropped-182400453.html]  * Toy Story 5 [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt29355505/] - released June 19, 2026 * Taylor Swift sourdough bread rumour - Marie Claire [https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/taylor-swift-sourdough-comments-on-new-heights-easter-egg-super-bowl-performance-fan-theory/] * Charli XCX  Taylor Swift Feud - Glamour [https://www.glamour.com/story/the-charli-xcx-and-taylor-swift-beef-rumors-explained]  * Taylor Swift — "Actually Romantic" from The Life of a Showgirl 🌀The Weekly Spiral  * Spy Turtles - New York Post coverage [https://nypost.com/2026/06/13/world-news/bizarre-claims-of-secret-spy-turtles-sends-china-into-a-panic/?utm_source=chatgpt.com] * El Salvador Escaped Giant Inflatable La Trionda - The Sun coverage and video [https://www.the-sun.com/sport/16514856/giant-world-cup-football-el-salvador/?utm_source=chatgpt.com] * Wikipedia - Background on Scientology Speedrunning [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology_speedrunning?utm_source=chatgpt.com] * Tom Cruise kissing Victoria Beckham's hand at David Beckham's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony - Vn Express [https://e.vnexpress.net/news/sports/football/victoria-beckham-sparks-mixed-reactions-after-tom-cruise-kisses-her-hand-at-husband-s-hollywood-event-5085919.html] * Project Acoustic Kitty [https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/cia-experimented-animals-1960s-too-just-ask-acoustic-kitty-180964313/] - CIA animal surveillance program, 1960s * DARPA [https://www.darpa.mil/] (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) - US military R&D agency * 51 Park - luxury development in Herzliya, Israel (Gwyneth Paltrow's ad) - From Goop to ‘Gwynocide’: why is Gwyneth Paltrow starring in a luxury Israeli real estate ad? | The Guardian [https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/jun/12/gwyneth-paltrow-51-park-israeli-real-estate-ad]  💕Obsession of the Week  * Loop earplugs [https://au.loopearplugs.com/] (also on Amazon) * Philsy's recipe - Chorizo and White Bean Stew [https://spanishsabores.com/chorizo-and-white-bean-stew-with-spinach/] 📣 Shoutouts * Rowan - fan spotted at a venue, very gracious, actually listens * Et (Andrew Ettingshausen) - legendary Australian fisherman, TV host of ET's Fishing Adventures [https://www.escapefishingwithet.com/about-et] * Patty - won a fishing trip with ET via a 25-word Instagram competition, now in the gym Loved this episode? ADHD, Meth, and a Shark Doing Sports Journalism (A Completely Normal Episode) [Episode 27]

A friend got pulled over after school drop-off and tested positive for meth. It was her ADHD medication. Han has questions. This week on Grab Her By The Mic opened with a phone call. A friend - we're calling her Poppy - got pulled over after school drop-off on a Wednesday morning, tested positive for meth, and it was the Vyvanse. Han, who is on two and a half times the dose, had several feelings about this. We looked into why ADHD medication triggers roadside drug tests, how the science works, and why absolutely nobody mentioned this at any point during our respective diagnoses. Poppy was let go. Han has questions. From there the Weekly Spiral covers someone is auctioning the chair Taylor Swift sat in at an NBA playoff game for above $9,000 and the auction is still live. Mr Blobby is having a cultural comeback in Britain and one of us had never heard of him and immediately hated him, which is the correct response. A shark in Brazil predicted the World Cup and got a draw, which is not great for her track record.  In The HyperFix Philsy deep-dived the Kardashian-Jenner chaos at Monaco F1 - Kim's bandage dress, Khy Summer, the Cory Gamble situation, and Kendall's very divine new boyfriend Jacob Elordi.  For The SideQuest, we played Relic or Rubbish - a game where Philsy guessed the sale prices of celebrity memorabilia and mostly got it wrong.  Han went to the Hare Spa at Hidden Hare in Mittagong with Poppy and actually fell asleep, which has never happened in a treatment before, and she wants you to know this is significant and why it is her Obsession of the Week. While Philsy’s Obsession of the Week is her new Klik camera - a screenless digital camera that brought back the joy of not knowing whether your photos are good. Explicit, chaotic, occasionally educational, and the first podcast episode to meaningfully discuss both meth and head spas in the same breath.  See you next Tuesday. 💋 CHAOS CORRECTIONAL (FACT-CHECK CORNER) Stick around after the outro for Chaos Correctional - where Han cleans up the confident nonsense we said on air with just enough research to be dangerous. This week we correct: * Whether Bordeaux is a protected designation like Champagne (yes, and the French will find you) * Whether meth and crystal meth are the same thing (related but not identical - Tim Tams are explained) * Whether Vyvanse and methamphetamine are the same thing (no, but they're chemically adjacent, which is somehow both better and worse) * Whether "rat boy" is the correct term for sexy nerdy - and whether Timothée Chalamet counts (partially right, one year late) * Whether Ryan Gosling moved to Australia during COVID (wrong on the timing - it was 2022 for The Fall Guy) * Whether Brazil is hosting the World Cup (no - USA, Canada and Mexico, and Brazil drew 1-1 with Morocco anyway) * Whether Ritinha the shark's predictions have been proven (she predicted a Brazil win, they drew, she is cooked) LINKS & THINGS WE MENTIONED 🍷 Recap & Rosé * Château Le Morines Bordeaux - the Aldi wine [https://www.aldi.com.au/product/chateau-les-maurins-bordeaux-750ml-000000000000306506] in question * Project Hail Mary (film, 2026) - Ryan Gosling, watch now on Amazon Prime [https://www.primevideo.com/dp/amzn1.dv.gti.414eb1af-ee27-476c-bc46-bedd48595f59?autoplay=0&ref_=atv_cf_strg_wb] * Wild Mountain Thyme (film, 2020) - the bumblebee movie, starring Jamie Dornan and Emily Blunt, also on Amazon Prime [https://www.primevideo.com/dp/amzn1.dv.gti.424cdb84-ca98-4a08-bec4-0764dd56b59f?autoplay=0&ref_=atv_cf_strg_wb] ❤️‍🔥 Obsession of the Week * Hidden Hare Mittagong - Hare Spa [https://www.thehiddenhare.com.au/new-page-1] * KLIK cameras [https://klikcamera.com/?srsltid=AfmBOorFYllQHUYNwhFICIdvzLVDJA0lfRYJ-Guf3nK__GAtUgNY8XbM] - screenless digital camera, ~$89 🌀 Weekly Spiral * Taylor Swift chair auction - ESPN [https://www.espn.com.au/nba/story/_/id/48985479/cleveland-cavaliers-taylor-swift-seat-auction-bid-eastern-conference-finals] * Mr Blobby cultural comeback - The Guardian [https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2026/jun/04/bizarre-return-of-mr-blobby], June 4 2026 * Ritinha the shark / World Cup predictions - NDTV Profit [https://www.ndtvprofit.com/sports/football/who-is-ritinha-shark-prediction-brazil-opening-fifa-world-cup-2026-match-vs-morocco-11596212]  [https://www.ndtvprofit.com/sports/footba%EE%80%80ll/who-is-ritinha-shark-prediction-brazi%EE%80%80l-opening-fifa-world-cup-2026-match-vs-m%EE%80%80orocco-11596212] 🧠 The HyperFix * Kardashians at Monaco F1 - various entertainment outlets * Khy [https://www.khy.com/] (Kylie Jenner's fashion brand) * Jacob Elordi - Kendall Jenner's new boyfriend * Cory Gamble - Kris Jenner's partner Loved this episode? jakson Pre-Perimenopause, Snake Wrestling and the Sheet That Did Nothing [Episode 26] kansikuva

Pre-Perimenopause, Snake Wrestling and the Sheet That Did Nothing [Episode 26]

This week on Grab Her By The Mic, Han survived five birthdays in one weekend, a junior disco at an illegal decibel level, a pinata wielded like a weapon by a four-year-old, while Philsy survived a Hello Fresh salesman who stood at her door for 40 minutes in the cold while the curry went cold inside. She was late because of it. Standard. This week's Weekly Spiral accidentally became National Geographic after three glasses of Grenache. America has now lost multiple kangaroos across multiple states, the US Health Secretary posted a video of himself wrestling snakes, and two men drove a dead alligator across Central Florida on the roof of their car, and when questioned, covered it with a white sheet and kept driving. The HyperFix this week started at the Mittagong junior disco, where someone called Kelsey casually dropped the concept of pre-perimenopause like a grenade and walked away. What followed was several hours of research into whether it's a real medical condition (sort of, maybe, nobody entirely agrees), a deep dive into why ADHD makes the whole thing worse and earlier, and a genuine spiral about why women are still learning about their own bodies from random conversations in completely inappropriate settings.  Obsessions of the Week: Go-To Skincare (Philsy is on a clean perfume oil journey and the Face Hero is doing things) and Off Campus on Prime Video (Han needs you to watch it immediately, it's too childish for grown-ups and too sexy for kids, which means it's exactly for you). Stick around for Chaos Correctional where Han fact-checks the bear, the snakes, Tony Abbott, and the trebuchet. Explicit, feral, occasionally educational, and accidentally hormonal. See you next Tuesday. 💋 CHAOS CORRECTIONAL (FACT-CHECK CORNER) Stick around after the outro for Chaos Correctional - where Han cleans up the confident nonsense we said on air with just enough research to be dangerous.
