From my first year in the health & beauty industry, when I drew up my first business plan, I knew that I wanted to own my own growing business one day. I knew that it had to involve people, but I was just not sure about the industry yet. After completing my Somatology Qualification, I spent one contract on board the International Cruise Lines. There I got valuable experience not just in the Spa Industry, but further into business, growth and leadership. Although the leadership experience I gained there was not the type I wanted to pursue one day, it still gave me experience and grew me in the right direction. I flew back to South Africa and then joined a 5 * Game Reserve in the Kruger National Park. Here my love for our wildlife and conservation sparked. This is where I gained more experience in the Spa Industry and again in the business/department development, growth and leadership, this time in a way that I truly resonated with and wanted to strive towards. This is also where I met the person who sparked Positive Mindset in me. This handsome Game Ranger + Talented Wildlife Photographer later became my husband, and we moved to Johannesburg to pursue our different careers. This is when I joined Dermology as they opened their doors for the first time. Over the next few years, I poured my heart and soul into this business as if it's my own. I dreamed BIG. I knew that the aesthetic industry is where I want to shoot my roots, grow my business and the people who forms part of it. After 8 years of employment, loyalty, hard work and dedication, I finally bought the business and became the proud CEO & Owner of Dermology. 8 months later, I opened my second branch. Something that was very big on my list of goals! Shortly thereafter more branches followed. Today, Dermology is found throughout South Africa in 4 different locations. Each run by teams who have grown with me for many years and grew into their well deserved positions. This is only the beginning for us.

Episode #1: How I almost did NOT go into the Aesthetics Industry

I was not the one who knew exactly what I wanted to do when I grew up. At school I enjoyed leadership roles, especially being Head Girl in Grade 12. I was also top achiever in my grade in academics and sport. However during my varsity days, I was certainly not that. My academics were average and I had no idea what I wanted to do with my Somatology Diploma, until I completed my final year focussing on Business Development. Going from the Cape Winelands to working on International Cruise Liners and then back to South Africa working on 5* Wildlife Game Reserves in Kruger National Park and Sabie Sand Wildtuin and finally the City of Gold ... I knew one thing. I love business and I love people. But I had to still find the industry I am passionate about. And it was ALMOST not the aesthetic industry. Thank you for listening!
