I'm Emily Weinberg and I'm a certified ADHD coach. I support adults who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed and not in control of their own lives. Unfortunately there are many barriers in the way of making ADHD coaching accessible to everyone and so this podcast is intended to give you, the listener, some of that access. Each episode will provide an inside look at what can happen within a coaching session. I will do this by sharing a summary each week from a session I've had with a client.  My hope is that you will not only feel less alone in your own struggles, but that you will also come away with new insights and awareness you can apply to your own life and learn ways you can support your ADHD.

Episode 15: How the ADHD Coach Coaches Herself

Send us a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/2311423/open_sms] In this weeks episode I’ll be wrapping up season one.  I’m going to take a little break from the pocast, but I will be back! So in this episode, I’m essentially the client because I will take you through some of the processes I went through it getting this podcast up and running and making it to 15 episodes. Hooray!   I’ll share some of the narratives I had come to believe and how they could have been (and definitely have been in the past) a huge barrier preventing me from doing this thing I wanted to do.  I’ll also share how my ADHD of course popped up along the way and how I supported myself instead of beating myself up for not being able to do it differently.  Thanks so much for listening along! I hope you come back and listen to any of these episodes whenever you’re needing some validation, empathy, support, or are just missing me!    If you enjoyed this episode please subscribe to this podcast and make sure to rate and review so more people can access ADHD coaching support. And I would LOVE for you share it with your friends and family! Disclaimer: This podcast is not intended to be a substitute for coaching, therapy, or any other medical intervention. Episode 14: Why did I act like that?

Send us a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/2311423/open_sms] In this weeks episode, I share a recap from a coaching session I had with a client who was really feeling really ashamed of her own behavior towards her partner and was really confused about what had caused her to act the way she did. We will talk about the emotions that can cause us to say and do things that we really don't feel proud of, and why sometimes those actions just continue to escalate and we feel powerless to stop or change course.   We also talk about why when feeling certain emotions such as rejection or sadness or self doubt, we might end up turning to emotions such as anger, resentment and irritation because those are emotions that we can express and expel outwardly and at others as opposed to emotions that feel stuck and like they will consume us.  If you've ever found yourself picking fights, making passive aggressive comments, or behaving in relationships in ways you're really not proud of, maybe this episode can help bring some awareness as to why.  We're not looking for excuses, we're looking for explanations so that we can better understand what is driving our behavior and feel more empowered to disrupt those patterns in the future. Episode 13: I Should be Able to Manage This (part 2)

Send us a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/2311423/open_sms] This weeks episode is the Part 2 from a session I had with a client who wanted to clean her fridge but was finding herself putting it off day after day. Last episode we uncovered some of the thoughts that were likely keeping her in avoidance, and this week I'll address the "so now what?" part of coaching.  Knowing why you're avoiding something is half the battle.  Understanding and validating your reasons for it, doesn't make the thing magically easier to do! So rather than just willing or pressuring ourselves to get going, we have to approach it in a way that actually works for us and sets us up for success.  We will go over which specific executive functions are needed for the task at hand (hint, it's a whole bunch of them) and different strategies she can utilize to support each one.   If you're wanting more practical tips for how to help yourself get started on that thing you've been meaning to do for weeks, months, maybe even years, hopefully this episode will provide you with just that. Episode 12: I Should be Able to Manage This (part 1)

Send us a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/2311423/open_sms] In this weeks episode, I share a recap from a coaching session I had with a client who was feeling a lot of shame around not being able to manage certain household tasks.  She had been putting off cleaning out her refrigerator for weeks and was frustrated with herself for not getting it done.  We talked about how certain emotions such as shame and guilt were likely responsible for her avoidance of the task, along with the fact that it actually requires a great deal of executive functioning to manage the contents of a refrigerator and to maintain it!  In this first part of this 2 part episode, we really uncovered some thoughts and beliefs of hers that make it hard for her to find ways to support her ADHD including things she "should" be able to do.    If you find yourself saying "I 'should' be able to do" xyz about all kinds of things, then I think this episode will really help you see how often times that's exactly what is preventing you from actually doing it.  If you enjoyed this episode please subscribe to this podcast and make sure to rate and review so more people can access ADHD coaching support. Episode 11: What to do With Anger

Send us a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/2311423/open_sms] This weeks episode is about Anger.  It was inspired by a session I had with a client who had really been resisting feeling angry, which was something I could very much relate to.  I have always HATED feeling angry and have spent a lot of energy trying to NOT be angry.   Anger can be a really strong and sometimes scary emotion.  And sometimes anger can drive  people to doing or say thigs they regret (when they can no longer tolerate the feeling) or to just totally shutting down and feeling stuck (when they are trying to avoid or push down the feeling).   Allowing yourself to feel anger AND learning how to tolerate that feeling without being driven by it, is only part of the equation.  Because anger can feel like energy building in your body and that energy needs some kind of release. So today I'll be discussing what I've learned about why it's so important to not only acknowledge anger and allow yourself to feel it, but also how to recognize when it's time to release some of that energy as well as some different ways of doing so.
