The Art of Enjoyment and Seeking Simple Pleasures

I’ve been thinking a lot about this especially when feeling stuck in heavy workloads, deadlines and managing multiple projects over these few months! There’s a risk of numbness and disconnect through these times, but really, it’s a risk at any point in life especially when there’s other mental health things going on. We also spend a little time discussing the validity of those “negative” feelings that come in too. We are absolutely allowed to feel them, they’re important and help us process.  I needed this reminder for myself today to find the things that bring me smiles and joy in the mundane parts of life. Today I’m sharing a little story about how my mum told me a long time ago that it’s how you approach the hard things that makes all the difference to your inner world. For me at least, the approach with kindness and openness is the key to giving myself a joyful and fulfilling life.  Listen, this isn’t a fix everything, it isn’t a toxic positivity post (ew!) but I invite you to look for the good things every day. Setting Goals and Dreaming for the real you I often think about whether where I’ve wound up in the world today is where I expected to be so many years ago. Have I given up on goals or dreams that I had? Were they ones that still hold meaning for me or are they ones that over time have lost the importance they once held?  Looking back, I think that over time we shed what we don’t need, keep what we do. Some of it is for survival and necessity, some of it is simply because we have moved on, and some of them simply always stay held deep within our hearts. First of all, if it was something let go of for the sake of necessity and it is now safe to reclaim it, I wonder what holds you back from going for it and stepping back toward your first dream?  This is what I’ve felt, mostly for safety, I had to release the things I wanted or in some cases, hide away who I really was inside instead, just coming out with exactly who I felt I had to be. But not that these don’t serve you in some ways as well, but if you’re safe, there’s real strength that comes from rediscovering yourself and your passion.  We definitely all grow and evolve over the years which is so wonderful that we’ve been given that gift to change and get back to our roots.
