Mindset Shifts that Make Men more Capable

What separates the men who keep going from the men who quit? This week Daniel and Adam unpack the mindset behind capability: drawing on real lessons from an extraordinary endurance event and applying them directly to the everyday life of a man carrying serious responsibility. Adam spent the weekend crewing a team of six athletes at a Backyard Ultra: a gruelling event where competitors run 4.16 miles every hour on the hour until they can't continue. The winner covered 254 miles in 64 hours. What Adam witnessed wasn't just physical endurance. It was a masterclass in how the stories men tell themselves determine how far they go. This episode covers the mindset shifts that make men more capable: in sport, in business, in life. In this episode: The one thing that separates men who keep going from men who quit and the moment you can see it happening in real time. Why the story you tell yourself and others is either your greatest asset or your biggest liability and how to catch yourself doing it. Do the next lap. Why breaking an impossible task down to the very next step is the only strategy that works under pressure. The lone wolf is a myth. Why no man performing at his best is doing it without the right team around him and what that team actually looks like. There is no secret ingredient. The difference between good and great is consistency to the basics, every single day. Discipline is freedom. How removing choices from your life paradoxically gives you more of it and why controlling your environment beats relying on willpower every time. Comfort is not comfort. How familiar pain keeps men stuck, and why growth only happens on the other side of discomfort. The privilege of struggle. Why the hardest seasons of your life are often the most important ones. ---------------------------------------- WANT SUPPORT ACROSS ALL FOUR PILLARS? Are you strong enough?: Physical Preparedness and Capability and its importance.

What Are You Actually Capable Of? Most men have never seriously asked themselves this question. If something happened tonight, could you protect your family? Can you keep up with your kids after a full day's work? Can your body sustain the pace your life demands: not just now, but in ten, twenty years? This episode is Daniel's case for physical capability as a non-negotiable. Not aesthetics. Not performance for its own sake. Capability in service of the things that actually matter. Key points from this episode: Physical capability isn't about the gym for its own sake: it's about being able to do the things a man needs to do. Protect. Provide. Show up for your kids. Keep going. Get clear on what capability means in your specific life, then train for that. 67% of men in the UK are overweight or obese. Not being in that number doesn't make you special but it does mean you're already standing against the current. The confidence that comes from physical training isn't separate from everything else. It feeds your mindset, your self-belief, your ability to lead. A man who shows up physically tends to show up everywhere. Think long. Training in your 30s and 40s isn't just about now it's about being capable at 50, 60, 70. What you do today determines what you can do then. Model it. Your kids are watching. Not the man you intend to be the man you are right now. ---------------------------------------- Mentioned in this episode: The MR40 Programme — nutrition, training, and personal development coaching over 40 days. What To Do When Your Emotions Are In The Way

What To Do When Your Emotions Are In The Way Life gets heavy. Things pile up. And when enough is going on at once, your ability to think clearly, show up, and do what needs doing takes a hit. This episode is about what to do in that moment not how to avoid it, not how to suppress it. How to actually move through it. Daniel runs through the three things that work. Key points from this episode: Start in the body. Get to the gym. Go for a run. Hit the bag. Box breathing. Sleep. Eat right. This isn't a workaround — it's the first protocol for a reason. The body shifts the mind. Do the opposite and the funk compounds. Give it time and space — but actually give it space. That means off the phone, off the podcasts, out in nature. Hours of walking with nothing to consume. Let things surface. Journal what comes up. Most men are so busy filling their heads they never get round to understanding what's actually going on in there. Bring it to someone. A coach. A therapist. The men in your group. Talking isn't weakness — it's how things get processed. You don't always need the advice. Being heard is often enough. But you do need people you can bring stuff to. Emotions aren't the problem. They're normal. The question is what you do with them next. ---------------------------------------- Mentioned in this episode: The MR40 Programme — 40 days to build clarity, clear what's in the way, and come out the other side with a vision and a plan. What are you building? The Question most men don't stop to ask.

Getting Clear On What You're Building The Make Ready Men Podcast — Coaches Corner with Daniel Tindall & Adam Glover Most men have a rough idea of where they want to go. Few have actually stopped to build the vision. And fewer still are honestly asking whether they're walking towards it. In this Coaches Corner episode, Daniel and Adam get into what clarity actually looks like in practice: how to find it, how to test whether you actually have it, and what to do when the gap between your vision and your reality becomes impossible to ignore. Key points from this episode: Clarity isn't a feeling: it's a question you can answer. Use the four pillars as a weekly check-in: can you clearly say where you're going in each area? If the answer is no, that's your starting point. Having a goal and pursuing a goal are different things. Adam shares a real-time example from his own training — the leaderboard doesn't lie. And neither does anything else, if you're willing to look. The big vision should be big. Goals are just the markers that show you whether you're actually moving towards it. Build the vision first. Then set the goals. In that order. Failure in the gym gets treated as progress. Failure everywhere else gets treated as evidence to quit. That's backwards. The same mindset that gets you back under the bar should get you back to the plan. A cluttered life produces a cluttered mind. Unresolved problems, unconsumed information, things you keep avoiding: they sit in the background and drain capacity. Clear the path before you try to run it. ---------------------------------------- Mentioned in this episode: The MR40 Programme — 40 days of clearing to gain clarity. By the end, you can actually answer the questions. Physical coaching with Adam, personal development coaching with Daniel, daily micro-learning, community, and group calls. Foundation of Fitness: Why Your Body Is The First Thing To Fix

Most men try to think their way to a better life. Read the right books. Get their head straight. Sort the strategy first. They've got it backwards. In this episode, Daniel makes the case that the physical pillar isn't one thing among many it's the foundation everything else is built on. And in a culture engineered to trash your health, ignoring it isn't neutral. It's a choice with consequences. Key points from this episode: The body and the mind are not separate things. What you eat, how you sleep, how much you move — it all shapes your mindset, your emotional state, your ability to show up. You can't think your way out of a body that isn't working. The mirror is a litmus test. Not the only one — but an honest one. And most men are already reading it and not liking what they see. Health isn't about vanity. It's about longevity, capability, and what you're modelling for the people watching you — especially your children. The one thing you can control when life feels unclear is how you're showing up physically. That's always available. Use it. ---------------------------------------- Mentioned in this episode: The MR40 Programme — Make Ready Men's entry-level coaching programme. 40 days of micro-learning, one-to-one coaching with Adam, personalised nutrition and physical performance coaching, personal development work with Daniel, and access to the community.
