Australia's Parliament has passed major tax reforms affecting property investment, including changes to negative gearing rules that will require new property purchases to be new builds rather than existing homes to qualify for negative gearing benefits. Existing negative gearing arrangements remain grandfathered. The legislation, which passed after 45 days of debate following a deal between Labor and the Greens, also includes additional tax cuts for workers, extended paid parental leave to six months, and permanent urgent care clinics.
