What it means to be a limited partner (LP)

We're kicking off a series of material that aims to demystify what it means to be an LP. Todays episode covers the basics of what it means to be a limited partner (LP) in a venture capital (VC) fund. We cover the process of investing in a fund, including who can invest in a VC fund, what an accredited investor is, how investing in a fund works, how money is made from a fund, and the typical life cycle of VC funds. We also dive into the risks and benefits of investing in VC, how to evaluate a VC fund, and how investing in a fund can help diversify an individual's portfolio or align with other goals. If you're interested in learning more about being an LP, join us for a virtual panel April 19th [https://lu.ma/707ya5xy] where we'll be speaking with 3 women who are sharing their experiences in becoming LPs! Researching Fund Data

Today we're talking about where we're at as a fund with data and research. Basically, the industry wants more info on diverse founders, but unfortunately, it's not something that's often collected. There's a real lack of data on Black, Latina, and women founders, as well as diversity in the tech world overall. And a lot of the research out there just forces people to pull together bits and pieces from all over the place to try and back up their ideas. So, we're discussing what data we want to collect and how we can team up with others in the ecosystem to come up with shared metrics. We want to build coalitions that can share resources and data to tackle this issue. The data we're after covers things like race/ethnicity, gender, wealth-building strategies, diversity in the C-suite and LP participation, funding rounds, traction, valuation, amount raised, time between rounds, team size and diversity, roles, and ways to create wealth. Founder Focus: Setting up a Pilot and fundraising

We recently did a session with Bubble.io's Immerse Cohort of founders and spoke with them about how to run pilots and use early traction to tell a fundraising story. We're going to share the key points that came out of that talk for today's more founder focused episode.  We cover:  * How to set up a pilot now that I have an MVP * What factors do I need to consider? What should I measure? * What are markers of a successful (or unsuccessful) pilots * Forming relationships with your first usersVC Fundraising * What kind of traction do VCs want to see? * How should I start building relationships with investors when I'm not yet ready to raise?
