Descripción

We’ve done it. This is the tenth Aerial Shot Movie Club podcast, and to mark the double-digits, here are my mother (Caryn Gottfried) and I breaking down everything The Devil Wears Prada. I also found out a few hours earlier that I’ll have to get surgery this summer because of how bad my sleep apnea has gotten, so you take the good and you take the bad, I guess. We discuss the chaos at Runway magazine, analyze our popcorn order for the upcoming The Devil Wears Prada 2 and go into detail about why I have bad taste in movies. Hope you enjoy. If not, go to hell. Get full access to Aerial Shot at aerialshot.substack.com/subscribe [https://aerialshot.substack.com/subscribe?utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=CTA_4]

Movie Club: Under the Silver Lake

Back in the day, Kathrine Schulze and I ran a relatively successful (popularity-wise, not monetarily) newsletter called Six Pack in which we recommended things. Many … many people went out of their way to tell me that they liked her recs more. Well, now we’ll see if that’s still the case. Kathrine and I saw Under the Silver Lake on streaming back when it came out in 2018, and she was still living in New York. And then a few days later, we saw it in theaters downtown at the Village East by Angelika. In the eight years since, Kathrine has gone back to it time and time again, and it really wasn’t a surprise when she claimed the David Robert Mitchell surrealist neo-noir for this week’s Aerial Shot: Movie Club. For those who haven’t seen this Andrew Garfield movie, boy, you’re in for quite a time. And we definitely recommend trying to watch this before listening to the podcast, so what we’re saying makes the slightest of sense. Aerial Shot is a reader-supported publication. Movie Club: 1917

The Oscars are finally (after what felt like decades) done. And so now it’s time to relax a little by watching a World War I thriller from seven years ago. That’s right; it’s 1917 time, starring George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman, a bunch of big names spread out over 119 minutes and my former Sober Up podcasting partner, Ben Wittenstein. No, Ben’s not in the movie … I think. But the Chicago native picked out the Sam Mendes war epic for this week’s Aerial Shot Movie Club. We both hadn’t seen it in a while and had quite a bit to say. Where are the cuts? Why didn’t this win Best Picture? Is Benedict Cumberbatch good in this movie? All those pressing questions and more will be answered over a tidy 51 minutes and 39 seconds. Not even 52 minutes. It’s basically a voice memo at that point. Movie Club: Ice Princess

Ice Princess, starring Michelle Trachtenberg, Hayden Panettiere and one of the more insane movie moms played by Joan Cusack, came out in 2005. And over the last 21 years, I’ve seen this movie more than nearly any other film. Mostly because Hannah had it on DVD as well as a poster of it in her room and was obsessed with it. For those who don’t know, Hannah was/is a figure skater and competed in nationals, but more importantly against Margot Robbie’s stunt double in I, Tonya. So those are her bonafides. She knows skating, as well as how to eat popcorn in a movie theater. We discuss the small-town mathlete to big-time athlete movie, along with a bunch of other random stuff. As is tradition on this here podcast. The Olympics may be over, but there are still some skating discussions to be had.
