Descripción

I’m incredibly fortunate to come from a long line of hardworking women with big hearts and nurturing hands, who believe that the health of the overall family unit can impact generations and who have remained dedicated to keeping our history alive through family and food. Some of these women, like my grandma, I have been lucky enough to know, others, like her mother and grandmother, I’ve come to know through stories, traditions and recipes. I recently sat down with my grandmother to record some of those stories. Hannah's House: Rediscovering Home | Chapter 8

I had no idea what to expect when I knocked on the door of my great, great grandmother's house that frigid winter's day. But what I found was a family who've not only cared for the home beautifully, uncovering its original 1700s features, they've ensured the property, including all 140 acres, is protected for generations to come. They've used the property to not only nourish their own family, but their community, just as Hannah did. So much of what we do here at Pantry Hill is rooted in family tradition, and much of that from stories of Hannah on her working farm with her open door and open heart. Not just for her ten children, but their children and their children's children. A legacy of nurturing, now five generations strong. A Pantry Hill Porch Party | Chapter 5

Here at Pantry Hill, the front porch is where we start the day. In our pajamas, on the swing, it's where we sit wrapped in blankets when we're not feeling well and we need a little sunshine or when we simply need a break. It's where we end the week when we gather with our neighbors and where we celebrate holidays and mark milestones. Recently a friend from the UK surprised me when she said she saw front porches as a uniquely American architectural concept, which got me thinking about the rich porch culture we have here in Saratoga Springs. What makes them so uniquely American? So I sat down over a cup of tea with Amy Smith, the owner and proprietor of the Saratoga Arms Hotel. Gardening For Tomorrow | Chapter 4

As the garden has grown, so have the connections we've made because of it. It's a hobby that brings people together and offers common ground, even across continents. This past winter, Beth Gregg, the founder of UK-based Claverton Cloches, visited Pantry Hill. One of the most unique parts of our garden are best Victorian-era inspired cloches, which help us extend our short northeastern season. Although the garden was buried in snow, Beth and I sat down over a cup of tea and chatted about not just gardening for today, but to honor yesterday and to cultivate hope for tomorrow.
