Compassion is the way forward for all leaders

Age care success depends on the quality of the people within it! Compassion is a critical component if we want to achieve an industry that can be successful, sustainable and caring. These are our goals, and without compassion from the top down, there is serious doubt we will ever achieve this. Are people sick and tired of seeing and reading about a lack of caring in the industry built on the back of care? I think that's a big yes!! We require leadership that is underpinned by compassion, connection and relationship building.  If you're a leader and you think this isn't possible and it won't happen, please email or DM me with why this is the case and what you are going to do about it. I would love to hear it. Our staff are crying out for compassion, connection and relationships.  Give them a reason to be proud of you (leader) and the organisation they serve.

episode Episode 9 - are you driving your staff away because of what you do or is it because of who you are? artwork

Episode 9 - are you driving your staff away because of what you do or is it because of who you are?

Lez delves into his own perception of the aged care and health system. He opens up honestly about how things are going and adds his own opinions to the mix. Based on discussions and interactions he has had with 50+ staff over the last 18 months, he highlights some of the more defining moments shared by the staff and the significant impact this had on them personally, particularly the emotional impact. Lez shares his passion for the industry and how the system is now losing focus on the staff, and any building of comradery among the teams is non-existent anymore. You can feel and see the impact this is having on the number of staff who have left and the lack of staff wanting to come on board.  Lez mixes a few metaphors along the way just to describe and highlight these changes' impact and places them in some context for everyone to get a feel for.  There is this perception that organisations and their leaders dont care about frontline staff. I'm sure this isn't true in most circumstances, but the fact is this; it doesn't matter if you do or dont care about the staff. If they perceive that you dont, you will struggle to have teamwork, consistency, and comradery, and in the end, you will struggle to build a successful business. Whether you agree with Lez's insights, the fact remains that aged care and health care staff are at a tipping point right now. What direction will it go? forwards or backwards?

episode Episode 8 - How often do you have to be a Manager or a Leader in your frontline manager role? artwork

Episode 8 - How often do you have to be a Manager or a Leader in your frontline manager role?

Lez recently shared this audio with the Frontline Wolf Pack Facebook group - asking the question about the amount of managing and the amount of leading frontline managers are having to do in their roles right now?  The role of an Aged Care Frontline Manager is constantly evolving and has done so for many years. In today's episode, Lez talks about the percentages or ratios of Manager and Leader in the frontline manager roles. i.e. how much of your role is taken up by management tasks and how much is taken up by leadership tasks. What are your percentages? Does the difference in percentages impact you and your role? What do you think is the best percentage of each in your role? Does this balance work for you or not? Lez talks about this issue and expands on the roles in aged care and asks if this is a consideration to help improve the Aged Care System.
