What is Fast Fashion? What does it mean to be ethical and fashionable? Can you be both? Let's dive into the truth about the fashion industry, ways to practice sustainability on a budget, and why it is important to do so. The fashion industry is one of the leading causes of climate change and responsible for using/wasting hundreds of tonnes of our resources on the planet, as well as hundreds of deaths around the world. Sound dramatic? It's the truth! As I continue to study and learn about this wild and crazy industry, I wanted to rant a bit about what I feel people should know. Annaleise Walker - Embracing the Unknowns - Backpacking Europe, first solo experience, fears and wonders! - September '22 Issue Pink Page

When traveling solo you get to meet all kinds of people. That’s the beauty of traveling around the world. These people you would never get the chance to meet otherwise. Whilst traveling Spain over the summer I came across the beautiful city of Sevilla where I met Annaleise. Sitting at the bed next to mine in the hostel, we got to chatting. Turns out we had a lot in common and I loved listening to her share her own travel stories. At the time she was on a month-long backpacking-adventure through Europe, similar to me except she went to many more cities and countries than I did. At only 19 years old, I admired her and saw so much of my own wanderlust in her. Fast forward to today, I knew she was perfect to interview because I knew she had stories and advice that needed to be heard. After all her travels, Annaleise sits on the phone with me in Canada with a smile on her face, eager to chat. In a Las Vegas middle school and high school called Faith Lutheran, is an incredible woman named Courtney Burns. As a published author, director of counseling, former corrections officer, rape crisis counselor, dog lover, and mother, she shows her love, compassion and faith every single day through her words and actions. We discuss her first book, “The Comfort Dog Gave Me Pink Eye: Lessons From the Book of Esther”, that highlights the horrifying events of October 1st and the healing journey afterwards. She has some incredible things to say about mental health and healing, especially in terms of the comfort dog, Esther, we have all loved from the start.
