Appalachian Treasures and Dreams
Episode 54 In this episode of Appalachian Treasures & Dreams, we sit down with the executive leadership team from Ramey-Estep / Re-group, a nonprofit organization that has been serving Kentucky communities for more than 80 years. Founded in 1944, Ramey-Estep has evolved alongside the needs of the region — growing from its early roots in child and family care into a comprehensive provider of behavioral health, recovery, and integrated community services. Today, through Re-group, the organization delivers outpatient therapy, substance-use treatment, residential recovery programs, and whole-person care to individuals and families across the Commonwealth. The executive team shares the story behind that evolution, what it means to be designated a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic, and how their work is expanding access to mental health and recovery services — especially in rural and underserved Appalachian communities. We also talk leadership, workforce challenges, and what the future holds for behavioral health care in our region. This conversation is a powerful reminder that healing is possible when communities invest in people, relationships, and hope.
