Another Beautiful Country with Bethany Montagano, Jenny Lin, Vivian Wenli Lin, and Charlene Liu
Another Beautiful Country is an exhibition that draws its name from the Chinese translation of America (美國/měiguó) and the common term, American-born Chinese, or ABC. The exhibit features many local AAPI artists and presents their experiences. Through their works, the artists present transnational relations, familial dynamics, and intimate tales of migration. Those featured in this episode are the museum's director, Bethany Montagano; the exhibit's curator, Jenny Lin; and two of the artists: Vivian Wenli Lin and Charlene Liu.
Squid Game's Creator and Director Hwang Dong-hyuk & Executive Producer Kim Ji-Yeon
We are joined this week by the creator and director of Squid Game Hwang Dong-hyuk and executive producer Kim Ji-Yeon. Squid Game marks another victory in the fight to grow representation of the AAPI community in film and entertainment, featuring Korean culture and traditions while paving the way for other AAPI communities to also have their stories told. Squid Game made history by becoming the first non-English language series with 14 nominations for the Primetime Emmys. Celebrating this cultural phenomenon shaped by Korean creators and Netflix, we are delighted that the City of Los Angeles is announcing the proclamation of Squid Game Day on September 17th. Also, celebrating Squid Game’s Lee Jung-Jae for making Emmy history. Lee Jung-jae, the star of the series, took home the top acting prize and became the first person from a foreign-language show to win best actor in a drama. And Hwang Dong-hyuk won the drama directing Emmy. The podcast is in both Korean and English.

SAIGU: Remembering the '92 Riots/Civil Unrest
This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the 1992 LA Uprising or SAIGU. LA UPRISING is known in the Korean American community as SAIGU, which directly translates to 4.29 or ‘April 29th’: the start date of the civil unrest. We invite all Angelenos to attend the commemorative LA Uprising/SAIGU events this month, to partake in a healing space and reflect on the effects of the unrest. Listen in as entrepreneur Kalika Yap and Task Force member interviews Hyepin Im of FACE (Faith and Community Empowerment) LA, Reverend Dr Mark E. Whitlock, Jr. and activist Najee Ali to discuss race relations and the 30th Anniversary of the Los Angeles Riots.
