Deer antlers shed; Cicadas begin to sing; Pinellia appears. Six thousand years ago, in the southeast of Teotihuacan, the ancient Mexicans observed the sunrise and sunset of the summer and winter solstices from a man-made mound shaped like a scorpion. At the same time, on the observatory at the Taosi site by the Yellow River, the ancient Chinese were attempting to converse with the cosmos, observing and recording the two solstices and two equinoxes. On the same day, the finger of the priest beneath the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan, and the finger of the astrologer on the Taosi observatory six thousand years ago, pointed toward the same direction. The same sun, the same shadow, the same obsession with celestial time. Carl Jung believed that the root of such synchronicity lies in the collective unconscious. Those innate psychological dispositions called archetypes, manifest unconsciously in dreams, hallucinations, and rituals. In ancient Mexican shamanic ceremonies, shamans used fire, drums, herbs, and dance to plant dreams into people, leading a collective into the act of co-creating events. While in the East, Daoist practitioners similarly believed that dreams are the passage through which the primordial spirit leaves the body and enters into dialogue with all things and the universe. Back to this EP, A Shaman's Dream, is entirely created by Mexican musicians. In their blood flows the astronomy of the Maya, the rituals of the Aztecs, the shamanic drumming, and the whispers of the dead. Yet when you close your eyes and listen, you'll find something familiar hidden between the beats, something that resonates with Eastern souls: the alternation of Yin and Yang, the breath of motion and stillness. This is one theory expressed in two tongues, a manifestation of what Jung called the collective unconscious across two civilizations, and a resonance born from the same sun illuminating two lands at once. ·𖥸· ─ ·♡· ─ ·𖥸· ─ ·♡· ─ ·𖥸· ─ ·♡· ─ ·𖥸· ─ ·♡· ─ ·𖥸· Nature.
