B-Movie Blitzkrieg
B-Movie Blitzkrieg Podcast – Episode 19 Zardoz (1974) Strap on your bandoliers, adjust your red nappy, and prepare for maximum philosophical confusion… The B-Movie Blitzkrieg Podcast is diving headfirst into the wonderfully unhinged world of Zardoz. This week, Duncan & The Baz attempt to unpack one of the most gloriously baffling cult films ever committed to celluloid. Directed by John Boorman and starring a moustachioed Sean Connery who clearly lost a bet with his agent, Zardoz delivers floating stone heads, post-apocalyptic weirdness, and philosophical musings that may or may not make sense depending on how much wine you've had. Set in a strange future where brutal “Brutals” serve an elite class of immortal intellectuals known as the Eternals, Connery’s Exterminator Zed discovers that the giant flying god-head dispensing guns and wisdom might not be quite what it seems. What follows is a psychedelic collision of sci-fi, social commentary, and wardrobe decisions that humanity was not prepared for. It’s confusing. It’s pretentious. It’s deeply weird. Naturally… we love it…or at least one of us does. --- In This Episode: * Is Zardoz a misunderstood sci-fi masterpiece or just completely off its rocker? * The Baz defends the power of cock mastery * Duncan attempts (and possibly fails) why he loves this movie. * Sean Connery’s is in this movie? How the hell did that happen? --- Top 5 Rad/Sad & Bad Moments: * The giant floating stone head delivering the immortal line: “THE GUN IS GOOD. THE PENIS IS EVIL.” ... Subtlety was clearly not invited. * Connery’s power over the turgidity of his penis * The Eternals’ … on a scale of 1 - 10…how much does Baz actually hate them? * Floating heads and vacuum packed sex dolls Duncan & The Baz dig into how Zardoz swings wildly between high-concept philosophy and absolute madness, why the film feels like a science-fiction fever dream, and how Sean Connery somehow commits 100% to every bizarre moment. Is it pretentious? Yes. Is it ridiculous? Also yes. Is it unforgettable cult cinema? Absolutely. Because sometimes the best B-movies aren’t the ones that make perfect sense… they’re the ones that leave you staring at the screen wondering what just happened. --- So polish your floating god head, question the nature of immortality, and remember… if a giant stone face starts throwing guns at you… things have probably gone very wrong. Until next time, stay bold, stay bizarre, and never trust a philosophical monologue delivered by a levitating monument…because here at B-Movie Blitzkrieg the bizarre meets the brilliant one B-Movie at a time. --- Season Finale Incoming Episode 20 drops Thursday, 27th March For the Season One finale, Duncan & The Baz head to 1980s New York to tackle rooftop cultists, stop-motion monsters, and one extremely angry flying reptile in Q: The Winged Serpent. Expect ancient Aztec gods, questionable police work, and Michael Moriarty absolutely losing his mind in the best possible way. Because nothing says season finale quite like a giant monster nesting on the Chrysler Building. And remember… The gun may be good… but a winged serpent is considerably worse.
