Today, Owen takes us deep into the Idaho mountains to Ruby Ridge where, in 1992, a standoff between the AFT, FBI, and Randy Weaver and his family ended in tragedy. The governments mishandling of the situation led to American citizens highly scrutinizing and condemning the governments' actions, sending waves of civil unrest across the country.  The family, the standoff, and the subsequent trial lives on today in the hearts and minds of Americans who watched the event unfold in real time, but awareness of this event has been steadily decreasing in the decades since. Thought provoking, anger inducing, and slightly terrifying, the events at Ruby Ridge deserve awareness at how miscommunication, mistrust in the goverment, and questionable, violent acts can lead to something tragic. We're back after a long hiatus!  For episode 3, Landen takes us into the heart of the San Juan Mountains during the gold rush in the Colorado Territoty. A team of prospectors graciously accepted a man named Alferd Packer into their expedition party after he falsely claims to be a wilderness guide. This doomed expedition party departed from Salt Lake City bound for the gold mines of Breckenridge and the San Juan Mountains in the Winter of 1873. From the beginning, their journey was full of back luck, worse weather, and a food supply that decreased by the day. Hello again! Since beginning the podcast, we have decided to switch to a biweekly episode release format instead of weekly. Since we do not you guys to feel jipped on content, we have a double header for you today. Owen takes us back to Appalachia, telling us about the Brown Mountain Lights.
