Retired teacher Yvonne Sam switched careers when it became clear that her calling was to the classroom. So strong was the pull to teaching, for her it was a duty. She still sees gaps in Black education in Quebec to this day and is impatient for change.

Erene Anthony became one of the first Black principals in Montreal and was known as a strict disciplinarian, though she was regarded by most as fair. Now retired she recounts incidents in which race did play a role in how she and some Black students were treated.
