Descripción

We are coming off of Teacher Appreciation Week and Mother's Day weekend. Shout out to all the educators and mothers! I am both an educator and a mother so it is an honor to sit with my good Sis who is a fellow educator and mother, Lonice @loniceiswriting. This episode is pure gold. We get into Lonice's 30 years of experience in education, what it means to teach Black history as a form of empowerment and truth-telling and what it means to resist through curriculum. She defines what it means to be a master teacher beyond the job description and we go back to see what and who shaped younger Lonice to become the educator and freedom fighter she is today. #Sankofa Listen, comment, share, connect, subscribe and discuss. Follow @Blackwomenbeknowing on IG. P.S. There were some slight tech issues but the episode is a labor of love. Give grace and enjoy.

Because Black Women Be Standing Ten Toes Down on Their Single Status

Y'all know I wasn't gonna let this month go by without giving y'all something to think and talk deeply about. On this episode, I sit down with my brilliant friend and sis, Kristina as we discuss why marriage and parenthood are not on the menu for many Black women. We discuss the importance of choice, ongoing reflection and interrogation of the narratives we've been fed. We also get into the toxicity of the manosphere and the work that men need to do before entering the dating pool as well as the issue of women's safety in their partnerships. I make sure we end with a few pop culture headlines too. It's a much needed discussion because let's face it, we're not all going to walk down the aisle and push strollers and that's OK! It's about living life on our terms. Listen, share, comment, discuss and SUBSCRIBE! Follow @Blackwomenbeknowing on IG. And if you don't know, now you be knowing!

Because Black Women Be Finding Home in Themselves

Happy Women's Herstory/Futures Month! On this beautiful episode, I sit down with my former-student-turned-colleague, Valery @rosewhogrewfromconcrete to discuss the importance of identifying and healing from our wound stories. We get into what it means to build a home within ourselves, to reject and correct the stories others may have written about us and to validate ourselves. We also call out K-12 schooling and the harms that come from that space. But we shout out the arts specifically writing and how it lends to grounding and truth-telling. We play a lightning round game called, A book, a song, a movie and of course, we talking our -ish and cussing a bit. So pull up, get nourished and like, comment, share and subscribe.
