In this special Father's Day episode of Breaking the Silence, I share a deeply personal letter to my father, who passed away when I was 15 years old. Just one month after losing him, I found out I was pregnant with my son, Nikolaas, whom I named after my father. During one of the darkest seasons of my life, when I was grieving, depressed, and feeling alone, my son became a source of comfort and purpose.
