Why right now I'm choosing therapy, over coaching

In this episode of FRAZZLED, I'm talking about why I'm advocating therapy over coaching right now, and why as a coach, that makes me feel uncomfortable. I've worked with coaches in some form for the last 25 years, and yes, I got sucked into 'coaches always need coaches' narrative.  I've spent, and wasted, tens of thousands on my own coaches over the last 13 years since I left my in-house role, and some of them, I'd never work with ever again.  Some I got no value from at all, some of them I ended up being the coach, and some of them were not coaches at all. I've been working with a therapist for the last year, it's given me my life back, and right now, with the world of work as it is, and stress, chronic stress, chronic illness and burnout rising, I wouldn't trust a lot of coaches right now to be able to coach in a way that's needed. Great coaching and great coaches, are amazing!   Coaching is also designed for clients with capacity, not those on the brink of, or coming through burnout.  And yet I know that can change.  And I know it, because the coaches I've trained are truly making a difference with and for their clients. Real content, not reel content!

I am so done with algorithms, and ads, and superficial, attention stealing, hooks, content that adds no value, toxic comments, and anything that adds no value. So over the last couple of weeks I've quit even more stuff, unfollowed even more people, unsubscribed from more subscriptions and emails and services and people, and with the time I'm saving, I'm doing much more incredible stuff that is actually adding value to my life. This week I'm talking about why I deleted my TikTok account, why I'd delete my Instagram if I could, and what I want from the content I'm consuming from now on. Is your space stealing your energy?

It's been two weeks since I moved into 'the shed' and it's already making a massive difference to my energy, my clarity and my work. I didn't realise how much I was making do and compromising in my workspace in the house, until I left it.  I didn't realise how much being actually in the garden, would make to my mood, until it began to shift. And I didn't realise how much the actual separation between home and work would make to how I feel. I'm not advocating everyone goes back to the office, there's no way you'd back and working in an office and around people every day ever again.  But do you know how much your work space is giving or stealing your energy? Let's stop glamorising self-employment - it's f*cking hard

Leaving corporate and starting your own business is hard. Add burnout into the mix, and leaving corporate to start a business with your confidence at rock bottom, your decision making abilities having left you, and the fear of reaching burnout again meaning that you don't want to take as many risks or push yourself too hard, then starting your own business can feel like trying to walk a tightrope with one broken leg and both hands tied behind your back. The good news is that it can be done, and like me you can find yourself completely and utterly unemployable and loving what you're building and creating - but, the promises of this business building being easy, glamorous, and frameworks that promise you overnight success, don't help - especially if your burnout isn't being factored in your business growth, your strategy, your energy levels, and everything else that burnout impacts in your life. OMG - I CANNOT even begin to tell you how excited I am for this episode, although thankfully, I do tell you how excited I am in this episode, or it's pretty pointless!! But, yes, FRAZZLED is back, so let's talk about why.
