Descripción

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia, affecting memory, thinking, and behavior. It gradually damages brain cells, leading to confusion, difficulty with everyday tasks, and personality changes. Individuals may struggle to recognize loved ones or communicate clearly as the disease progresses. While it primarily affects older adults, Alzheimer’s is not a normal part of aging. There is no cure, but early diagnosis, lifestyle support, and ongoing research offer hope for better care and future treatments. Episode 01: ALS+ 101

What is Neurodegeneration and Why It Matters? Neurodegeneration is the progressive loss of structure or function of neurons—the vital nerve cells in our brain and nervous system. Over time, this damage can lead to debilitating conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and Huntington’s disease. Understanding neurodegeneration is crucial because these disorders are not only life-altering for individuals and their families, but they also present one of the most pressing medical challenges of our time. As global populations age, the number of people affected by neurodegenerative diseases is rapidly rising. Despite this growing crisis, many of these conditions still lack effective treatments or cures. Raising awareness, supporting research, and promoting early diagnosis are key steps toward combating these diseases. By understanding what neurodegeneration is, we take the first step toward fighting it.
