Once For All

Hebrews 10:1–18 declares that the Old Covenant sacrifices were only temporary shadows that could never fully remove sin. In contrast, Jesus Christ offered Himself as the perfect and final sacrifice, accomplishing once for all what repeated offerings could not. Because of His finished work, believers receive complete forgiveness and inward transformation through the New Covenant. In Matthew 17:14–20, Jesus healed a boy who was suffering severely after His disciples were unable to cast out a demon. Desperate for help, the boy’s father brought his son to Jesus, who rebuked the demon and immediately restored the child. Later, when the disciples asked why they had failed, Jesus explained that their lack of faith had hindered them. As Ulises Villegas notes, Jesus taught that even faith as small as a mustard seed can accomplish what seems impossible when it is rooted in and dependent upon God’s power.
