The ironing board… Some of you may not even know what I’m talking about. Our grandmothers had one, set up on a Sunday night, with an iron heating up, preparing clothes for the week ahead. It wasn’t just about removing wrinkles; it was about readiness, intention, care. Lately, I’ve been thinking about that ironing board. About all the things we don’t have anymore. The home phone, the one attached to the wall, the only bridge between our home and the outside world. The metal ice trays, with that small handle you had to twist just right to release the ice cubes. Simple things. Ordinary things. Everyday things. They’ve quietly disappeared. Now we carry small computers in our hands. We send our clothes out to be pressed. Ice comes perfectly shaped at the push of a button, without even opening the refrigerator door. And that’s okay. Convenience is not the enemy. But somewhere along the way, with those objects, we also let go of something less visible, small disciplines, quiet rhythms, pieces of wisdom, common sense. Things that shaped us. Because the truth is… there are things in life that, once lost, are not so easily found again. So today, I invite you to pause and ask yourself: What have you let go of that was once good for you? Not everything old needs to return, but some things are worth reclaiming. A habit. A conversation. A rhythm. A way of caring. Maybe today is a good day to return— wisely, carefully, and even… joyfully. BW
