Descripción

In this episode, I examine the paradox of structure in the artistic life. While a rigid process can become a hindrance to free exploration, a lack of structure often leads to anxiety and a disconnected, mechanical approach to image-making. I share the specific routine I developed four years ago to manage the internal pressure to "deliver" results. By incorporating time for meditation and arriving well before the light, I explore how slowing down allows art to emerge as a natural byproduct of witnessing, rather than a forced objective.   Previous episodes mentioned here: https://www.verseoflight.com/blog/process-of-portfolio-creation [https://www.verseoflight.com/blog/process-of-portfolio-creation] https://www.verseoflight.com/blog/portfolio-simplification-and-the-journey-of-single-images [https://www.verseoflight.com/blog/portfolio-simplification-and-the-journey-of-single-images] https://www.verseoflight.com/blog/reflections-on-my-photography-journey [https://www.verseoflight.com/blog/reflections-on-my-photography-journey]   Website: VerseOfLight.com [https://www.verseoflight.com/] Main Instagram: @verse.of.light [https://www.instagram.com/verse.of.light]  Substratum Section: @verse.of.light.substratum [https://www.instagram.com/verse.of.light.substratum]   Audio Credit: "The Temperature of the Air on the Bow of the Kaleetan" by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under CC BY 4.0. episode Beginning Of A Landscape Fine-Art Project artwork

Beginning Of A Landscape Fine-Art Project

This episode reflects on the beginning of a long-term photography project in a place that did not offer an immediate connection. After many discarded images, one bad image suggested a direction, and the work slowly began to unfold. The reflection talk about how difficulty, and uncertainty can become not obstacles to art, but conditions through which we can grow.   First part of the project mentioned in the episode [https://www.verseoflight.com/portfolio/2026/opening-verse-in-two-registers] Website: VerseOfLight.com [https://www.verseoflight.com/] Main Instagram: @verse.of.light [https://www.instagram.com/verse.of.light]  Substratum Section: @verse.of.light.substratum [https://www.instagram.com/verse.of.light.substratum] Single Images vs Portfolios vs Projects [https://www.verseoflight.com/blog/single-images-vs-portfolios-vs-projects]   Audio Credit: "The Temperature of the Air on the Bow of the Kaleetan" by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under CC BY 4.0. episode Titles And The Art Work artwork

Titles And The Art Work

Beginning with a vase of fading flowers and moving into the birth of a new section called Substratum, this episode reflects on how a body of work gradually reveals its own direction. It considers the place of titles in photography: not as labels for what is already visible, but as part of the creative process itself. A good title can open meaning, invite feeling, and leave room for the viewer’s own story; a careless one can narrow or diminish what the image carries.   New Substratum section on VerseOfLight: https://www.verseoflight.com/substratum [https://www.verseoflight.com/substratum] Website: VerseOfLight.com [https://www.verseoflight.com/] Main Instagram: @verse.of.light [https://www.instagram.com/verse.of.light]  Substratum Section: @verse.of.light.substratum [https://www.instagram.com/verse.of.light.substratum]   Audio Credit: "The Temperature of the Air on the Bow of the Kaleetan" by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under CC BY 4.0. Process Of Field Work In Landscape Photography - Part 2

This episode traces the development of a personal fieldwork process, from its early structured phases involving Satipatthana meditation and haiku to a more simplified contemporary approach. It explores the delicate balance between the analytical mind and instinctive feeling, illustrating how haiku serves as a bridge between the two. The discussion also covers the shift toward intensive multi-day photography trips and the practical necessity of midday rest to sustain creative energy for the evening light.   Website: VerseOfLight.com [https://www.verseoflight.com/] Main Instagram: @verse.of.light [https://www.instagram.com/verse.of.light]  Substratum Section: @verse.of.light.substratum [https://www.instagram.com/verse.of.light.substratum]   Audio Credit: "The Temperature of the Air on the Bow of the Kaleetan" by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under CC BY 4.0. episode How New Year Can Sometimes Lead Into Anatta Appreciation artwork

How New Year Can Sometimes Lead Into Anatta Appreciation

A tradition repeats, yet nothing repeats. Each New Year’s Eve, a small painted ornament receives a private note; the next year, it is opened and read. The surprise is not what the note says, but who it seems to come from: the handwriting is recognizable, while the writer feels absent. From that simple discomfort, the reflection turns toward Anicca - the ceaseless unfolding of change - and Anatta - the absence of a fixed, permanent self. The episode invites a quieter kind of honesty: what moves through the year is less an “entity” and more a living process, reshaped by countless moments, with memory as a thread that also keeps changing.
