If you've ever looked around and wondered why some hairstylists seem to have clients waiting to get into their chair while you're still trying to fill your books, this episode is for you. After more than 40 years behind the chair and rebuilding my business multiple times, I've learned that being fully booked isn't always about being the most talented stylist in the room. In this episode, I'm sharing three things that fully booked hairstylists understand that often get overlooked. We'll talk about why building a loyal clientele takes longer than most people expect, why your client experience matters just as much as your technical skills, and why learning to think like the CEO of your chair can change everything. If you're feeling frustrated because your books aren't growing as quickly as you'd hoped, I think this episode will give you a different way to look at it.    Join Me for the Fully Booked Workshop If you'd like help creating more loyal clients, stronger retention, more referrals, and a more predictable income behind the chair, I'd love to invite you to my FREE Fully Booked Workshop on June 22nd. 38| Struggling to Build a Clientele? Do This First

If you're struggling to build a clientele, before you worry about social media, marketing, or getting more clients in your chair, there's one question I think you need to ask yourself first. Where are you right now? Not where you want to be. Not where the stylist on Instagram is. Not where your mentor is. But where YOU are in your hairstylist journey One of the biggest mistakes I see hairstylists make is trying to build a business based on where they wish they were instead of where they actually are. When we skip this step, it often leads to frustration, overwhelm, burnout, and chasing strategies that aren't right for the stage we're currently in. In this episode, we're taking a step back and having an honest conversation about where you are in your career and what you should be focusing on next. We'll talk about: *  The brand-new stylist who needs experience, confidence, and guidance. *  The stylist who has been behind the chair for a while but feels stuck and isn't seeing the growth they hoped for. * The stylist who is rebuilding after a move, life change, or starting over in a new salon. Because each of these stylists needs something different. The advice that helps one stylist grow can keep another stylist stuck. By the end of this episode, you'll have a better understanding of where you are in your journey, what you should be focusing on right now, and how to move forward with more clarity and confidence. In This Episode You'll Learn: * Why more marketing isn't always the answer * The question every hairstylist should ask before trying to get more clients * How to identify where you are in your hairstylist journey * What brand new stylists should focus on first * Why some stylists feel stuck even after years behind the chair * How to approach rebuilding your clientele with intention * Why different stages require different strategies If you are wanting to get clear on what you need to be doing to start building a fully booked chair, I have created something for you. 👇 Join Me for My Free Fully Booked Chair Workshop If you've been feeling overwhelmed, frustrated by inconsistent bookings, or unsure what you should be focusing on next, I'd love to invite you to my free Fully Booked Chair Workshop. 37| The 3 Things I'd Focus on First If I Had to Rebuild My Chair

When hairstylists first get licensed, it's easy to believe that success comes from working harder, posting more, or trying to do what the successful stylists around us are doing. The problem? Most of us are trying to build a business without understanding where we are on the journey. In this episode, I'm sharing what I would do differently if I had to rebuild my clientele from scratch today. I also share a personal story from early in my career when I landed a job at a high-end salon that I thought was my dream opportunity. Instead, I quickly realized I wasn't prepared for the environment, the expectations, or some of the services I was being asked to perform. It was a humbling experience. But it taught me one of the most valuable lessons of my career: Every successful hairstylist goes through stages of growth, and trying to skip those stages often leads to frustration, burnout, and self-doubt. In this episode, you'll learn: * The dangers of comparing yourself to stylists who are further along in their journey * Why so many hairstylists struggle in the first few years behind the chair * The story of the highlight client that taught me a lesson I'll never forget * The three things I would focus on first if I had to rebuild my clientele today * Why clarity is more important than hustle when it comes to building a loyal clientele Most importantly, I want you to walk away understanding that where you are today is not where you'll always be. The key is knowing what stage you're in and focusing on the next right step. 36| Why Some Clients Know You're Their Hair Stylist Before They Ever Meet You

Why Some Clients Know You're Their Stylist Before They Ever Meet You Episode Description: Have you ever had a client tell you, "I knew you were my stylist before I ever met you?" That's exactly what happened to me this week. A client shared that she had watched my videos before ever booking an appointment and knew I was the right fit for her. It reminded me of an important lesson that every hairstylist needs to hear. Building a loyal clientele isn't about trying to attract everyone. It's about attracting the right people. In this episode, I'm sharing the story behind that conversation, what I learned when I rebuilt my business after moving to a new state, and why clarity matters more than chasing social media trends. You'll discover: • Why the right clients often decide to book before they ever sit in your chair • The mistake many hairstylists make when trying to grow their clientele • Why knowing who you want to work with changes everything • How teaching and serving builds trust faster than selling • The connection between clarity, confidence, and consistent clients If you've ever felt like you're working hard but still struggling to attract the clients you truly enjoy working with, this episode is for you. 34| The Simple Shift That Turns First Time Clients into Loyal Clients

What if the secret to building loyal clients isn't having better haircutting skills... but building a stronger connection? In this episode of Cutting Through It, I'm sharing a recent story about a client who was incredibly quiet and difficult to connect with at first. By the end of her appointment, not only did she rebook her next three visits, but she also booked additional services. So what changed? It wasn't the haircut. It was the connection. In this episode, I'll share three simple communication tips that can help your clients feel seen, heard, and valued. Because that's often what turns a first-time guest into a loyal client. We'll also talk about why communication can feel challenging for many hairstylists, especially if you're naturally introverted, and how a few small shifts can completely change the experience your clients have in your chair.   Need help starting conversations with clients? I've created a free guide called 25 Conversation Starters for Hairstylists to help you feel more confident connecting with clients and building stronger relationships behind the chair.
