It took becoming homeless for Perry Knoppert to finally find himself in 2021. The result is The Octopus Movement, a global movement composed of thousands of other weirdos like him from 60 countries! And I'm proud to be one of them :) After a lifetime of feeling weird, like a misfit and loser, and hopping from job to job, when he did find himself he also founded this global network to help spread the word of the gifts of nonlinear thinkers like him. While we're diagnosed as many different things - ADHD, autististic, dyslexic, etc. - those labels don't convey the powers that neurodiversity brings to the world. They just make it seem like there's something wrong with us that needs to be cured. Imagine if Einstein had been "cured"... Why an octopus? Perry selected it after asking himself, “What is the symbol of a curious misfit?” I think it's perfect because the octopus is so intelligent, adaptable, and just plain weird. It's hard for us to even comprehend their abilities. And it's hard for so-called "normal" people understand us weirdos and our abilities. Reinventing Yourself After Retirement: Annette Whittenberger

Annette is now a podcaster, speaker, mentor, author, musician, and volunteer.
