episode July "Reads" artwork

July "Reads"

In July, I had one of my steadiest reading months because of the Bookshop x Libro.fm joint summer reading challenge. Yet, despite all of my reading….I've only actually finished TWO books in July. Today's episode is about the struggles of being a mood reader and a run-down of the books I've been "currently reading." Books mentioned in today's episode: * Family Lore by Elizabeth Acevedo * Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert * The Making of Yolanda La Bruja by Lorraine Avila * Undercover Latina by Aya de León * Atomic Habits by James Clear * Yolk by Mary H. K. Choi * Wash Day Diaries by Jamila Rowser Shop Tuma's Books [www.tumasbooks.com], Bookshop.org [www.bookshop.org/shop/tumasbooks], or Libro.fm [www.libro.fm/tumasbooks] to support our bookstore! ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. There are a TON of celebrations in June, but the two cultural heritage ones are Caribbean Heritage Month and National Immigration Month. I recently learned about National Immigration Heritage Month and can’t believe I didn’t know about it until this year.  So let’s get into this month’s book club titles. In today’s episode, I want to share the description of each title, talk a little bit about why I selected it, share some author bio, and read a brief excerpt out loud to you all. Our Monthly Book Club service is for readers committed to reading more diversely but not sure where to start or what to read next? Each month, you will choose from three compelling and culturally diverse books that I've carefully chosen to delight, inspire, and educate you about different representation.
