A happy and uplifting mix for Pride 2026! As always, I've included new tracks as well as some remixes I love of the classics. I hope this mix gets you thinking about dancing during this Pride season. My first thought on this theme was that it isn't that complicated. Pride, dancing, clubs, right? But perhaps it's not as simple as that. Part of Pride is letting go of any shame we might have been taught about our bodies. The mystery of moving our bodies to music can help us heal. So, yes: dance clubs. But it might be two-stepping, or ballroom, or ecstatic dance. Or if that isn't for you, perhaps watching and appreciating. Ballet, contemporary, musicals. Whatever moves your body, or your heart. Alexandra Burke - You Broke My Heart (Daniel Van Olst - Piano House Radio Edit) - free download

"You Broke My Heart" is a pretty standard you-done-me-wrong track, but Alexandra Burke does an amazing job with the lyrics, as she always does. I was going to make a mashup with it...but I ended up with a complete piano house remix. :-) My inspiration was being on the dancefloor, looking up at the mirror ball, with the spotlight flashing on it. Alexandra Burke is an English singer, songwriter and actress. She won the fifth series of the talent television show The X Factor in 2008, and is known for her hits "Hallelujah", "Bad Boys", and "Start Without You" (as well as many others). Here's my live set from Flagging In LA!! What a glorious day! Perfect weather, and amazing location: West Hollywood Park! I had the chance to see many old friends (some of which I had not seen in ages), and to make many new ones. :-) The flaggers were talented and beautiful, as always! What's interesting here? I've always had a dream of playing Donna Summer in LA. Many of her tracks relate to LA or Hollywood in one way or another, so I indulged myself a bit with "MacArthur Park", "Carry On", and "This Time I Know It's For Real". Oh, and there's a complete remake (including new melody) of Dolly Parton's hit, "Islands In The Stream" that I'm smitten with! I tend to think of Donna Summer as a 70's disco queen, but she had nearly as many Top 40 hits in the 80's as the 70's! "This Time I Know It's For Real" released in 1989, and reached #7 on the US Top 40 charts. This track was written and produced by the super-famous Stock Aitken Waterman team, well-known for working with performers like Rick Astley, Bananarama, Dead or Alive, and Kylie Minogue. As with many remixes, my goal was to make the track a little more danceable and up-to-date, but hopefully still keeping the spirit of the original with its many musical flourishes. 70 minutes of music to get you up and dancing. I think a great set is based on an idea, or a vision. It doesn't have to be complicated. It might be a journey, the style of an artist, how you want listeners to feel, or where you see it being played. I've read that dancing at a club or bar is going out of style - that people don't want to embarrass themselves, or that everyone wants to be a DJ instead. If so, this is my humble protest. If this makes you want to move - even if it's tapping your foot, or nodding your head to the beat - I'll be content!
