Remind Ourselves of This: Pentecost 2026
Against the Grain, Week 5: Be Prepared
As a Boy Scout, I learned a motto that has stuck with me through the years, “be prepared.” In life, it is important to prayerfully prepare for the variety of circumstances we may face. Peter knew the importance of spiritual preparation, especially in light of the hardships he knew he would encounter because of his faith in Jesus. Rather than react to hardships when they arrived, Peter prepared himself to see each challenge as an opportunity to share his faith. In this message, we examine ways that we can spiritually prepare to our personal trials into our testimonies. Based on 1 Peter 3:13-22 [https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Peter%203%3A13-22&version=NIV]Against the Grain, Week 5: Discussion Guide
Against the Grain, Week 4: Built For a Purpose (DSM Sunday)
The message for DSM Sunday will focus on God’s ultimate purpose for us who are followers in Christ – to be living stones, part of the spiritual house God is building as a testimony to Christ. As students are in the midst of discovering their personal identity and direction in life, they will reflect on what this passage says about our ultimate purpose. Based on 1 Peter 2:1-10 [https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Peter%202%3A1-10&version=NIV] Against the Grain, Week 4: Discussion Guide
Against the Grain, Week 3: Suffering with Christ
Too often, we see our sufferings as a sign that God is not on our side. Nothing could be further from the truth. God’s Word is clear that when we follow Jesus there will be times when we suffer, just as Christ suffered. While we do not wish for suffering, Peter teaches us to interpret our suffering as an opportunity to deepen our truth in Christ. In this message, we look at the suffering Jesus endured as a model for how we can weather the storms of this life.
