ENEA Young Researchers Committee Training Program
On behalf of the EYRC, Dr Mario Detomas interviewed Professor Mirjam Christ-Crain during the 9th ENEA Workshop held in Marseille, France, in December 2025.Mirjam Christ-Crain is Prof.of Endocrinology & Chief of the Clinic for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University Hospital of Basel, Switzerland. She is also the President-Elect of the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE).In this interview, Professor Christ-Crain shares valuable insights for the next generation of endocrinologists.Reflecting on her academic journey, she highlights the importance of building strong professional networks, starting research early, and developing resilience in the face of challenges within an academic career.Professor Christ-Crain also discusses how her scientific interests evolved—from early work in subclinical hypothyroidism and procalcitonin to stress hormones, copeptin, and ultimately AVP deficiency—illustrating how curiosity, opportunity, and unexpected paths shape a research career. Finally, she addresses the future of pituitary research in Europe, emphasizing the need for stronger international collaboration, increased funding opportunities, and well-designed clinical trials to make the field more attractive to young clinicians and scientists. It was a true pleasure to interview Prof. Christ-Crain, and we hope that her experience and insights will inspire and support young clinician scientists in their own career paths in Endocrinology! We are also proud to support her recent nomination for the Swiss Viktor Award for Medical Excellence.
