Descripción

What if your resume wasn’t just a list of jobs and achievements, but a vision for who you want to become? In this episode of Epic Stories, I invite you to imagine your life ten years from now and ask: what would your future resume say? I share how a simple yet powerful idea from Jesse Cole, founder of the Savannah Bananas, got me thinking beyond traditional resumes. Instead of listing what I've done, what if I focused on who I intend to be? This episode is all about shifting from simply filling a resume with success to filling a life with significance—and the intentional daily choices that shape our stories. KEY TAKEAWAYS * Embracing the Future Resume: I explain how thinking about who I want to become, rather than just what I’ve done, helps me make better decisions each day. * Focusing Beyond Work: I talk about the most meaningful additions to my personal resume—like repaired relationships, learned skills, or unforgettable experiences—that matter more than job titles. * Living Intentionally: I share the realization that life rarely “settles down,” and it’s up to me to write my future through everyday choices, not just big events. * Practical Challenge: I walk you through how you can create your own future resume—starting today, with a blank page and a bold vision. * The Power of Dreaming: I remind you (and myself!) that every remarkable life starts with imagining a different future. Ready to join me on this journey? Take out a piece of paper, title it “My Future Resume,” and start writing about the person you intend to become and the life you want to live over the next ten years. Share your dreams with the hashtag #epiclivingpodcast, drop me a comment on my Facebook page, or visit epiclivingwithjean.com to discover more about living your own epic story. Let’s make intentional choices together—today and every day! Mentioned in this episode: Epic Stories is Part of the eWomenPodcastNetwork eWomenPodcastNetwork [https://epic-stories.captivate.fm/ewpn]

Bravely Bleeding: A Story of Survival, Identity, and Second Chances with Kris Corbett

Have you ever faced a moment that changed your life overnight—a moment when everything is suddenly uncertain, and it feels impossible to know what comes next? In this episode, I sit down with Kris Corbett: nurse, basketball coach, poet, mother of four, and someone who knows what it means to carry the weight of uncertainty for decades. Kris Corbett shares her journey through seizures, brain hemorrhages, and two life-altering brain surgeries. But what struck me most is that her story isn’t about illness—it’s about resilience, identity, and discovering strength in the unlikeliest places. Join me as we dig into the creative intersections of sports, caregiving, nursing, and writing, and talk honestly about what it takes to show up for your own life even when the ground keeps shifting. KEY TAKEAWAYS * Resilience Wins: Kris Corbett talks about how she refused to become a victim of her circumstances, choosing humor and persistence as her lifelines (01:13:17). * Creativity in Everything: We explore how artistry exists in sports, medicine, and motherhood—and why your unique mix of skills is a gift, not a flaw (12:36). * Living After Survival: Kris Corbett reveals what it’s like to live for years under the shadow of a possible crisis, and how she learned to move forward (54:41). * Owning Our Value: Our conversation dives into the importance of owning what makes us valuable, even when we’re unsure or feel out of place (21:06). * Enough as We Are: We talk about letting go of perfection and embracing our strengths, instead of trying to be good at everything or fit in (27:28). * The Power of Story: Kris Corbett shares how telling her story and writing her book became a path to healing—and why your story can do the same for someone else (01:13:41). MY CHALLENGE TO YOU What challenge are you facing right now? Write down two things: what happened to you, and who you choose to become because of it. Let that reminder guide your week. If this episode moved you, please share it with someone who needs a little courage and leave us a review on your favorite podcast platform. Learn more about Kris and get her book, Peaced Together, at thepiecesoflife.org. Remember, you may not get to decide the circumstances—but you always get to write your own ending. episode The Art of Storytelling: Why Your Everyday Stories Are More Powerful Than You Think artwork

The Art of Storytelling: Why Your Everyday Stories Are More Powerful Than You Think

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT, “I DON’T HAVE A STORY WORTH SHARING”? I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard someone—maybe even myself—say, “My story isn’t important,” or “Nothing that’s happened to me really matters.” But over the years of living, loving, losing, and learning (and hundreds of conversations on this podcast), I’ve discovered that the real question isn’t whether you have a story—it’s whether you recognize it. In this episode, I sit down with Sara Lohse—author, podcast producer, and someone truly passionate about helping others uncover the power of their own narrative. Together, we dive deep into why so many of us minimize our stories, and how sharing what we’ve lived—no matter how ordinary—can truly transform understanding, connection, and even identity. From the family mementos we struggle to let go of, to the “bloopers” running in the background of our greatest moments, this episode is a reminder: you don’t need dramatic headlines or plot twists to have a story worth telling. Sometimes, the magic is in the everyday. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL LEARN: * Why “ordinary” stories are anything but: Sara and I bust the myth that only big, newsworthy events deserve to be shared, and explain why simple, personal memories matter most (04:05). * How stories shape family, culture, and self: We talk about the vital role stories play in helping our children, parents, friends, and even coworkers feel understood and connected (13:15). * The real power of vulnerability: Sara shares why it’s easier—and more rewarding—to be authentic rather than perfect, letting others in on our missteps and learning curves (19:26). * Why connection isn’t the same as communication: Texting and social media might keep us “in touch,” but it’s real stories—told face to face or heart to heart—that heal isolation and bring us back to each other (09:00). * Tips to re-discover your own stories: We break down practical ways you can start sharing even if you’re not a writer or public speaker—beginning with small exchanges, family photos, or a single memory (11:00). * How to pass on meaning, not just possessions: Inspired by real-life examples, I ask how we can preserve the stories behind our keepsakes, so future generations cherish the meaning, not just the stuff (13:15). * Permission to “play big”—even if you’re scared: Through raw honesty and her own life twists, Sarah Losey explains how our stories evolve and how we can choose to change them, one brave decision at a time (31:15). * You are not alone in your doubts: Even those who share stories for a living, like us, have moments of fear, second-guessing, and feeling “not good enough”—and that’s part of the human story too (33:20). * Challenge of the week: I want you to experience the transformative power of your own story. So this week, I challenge you to reflect on a lesson you’ve learned—then locate the moment you learned it, and write it down (just a few lines or details—no need for a novel!) (41:15). You have lived moments that matter. This week, I invite you to dig into your own life and capture just one: find a lesson you’ve learned, remember the moment you learned it, and jot down what happened. It doesn’t have to be dramatic, polished, or public—a simple, honest memory is all it takes. Then, if you feel brave, come share your story with me! Post it on my Facebook page, or visit epiclivingwithjean.com [https://epiclivingwithjean.com/]. Use the hashtag #epiclivingpodcast so our community can support and inspire each other to recognize the magic and meaning in all of our everyday stories. For help finding your own impactful stories and learning how to tell them, pick up Sara Lohse's book, Open This Book: The Art of Storytelling for Aspiring Thought Leaders [https://a.co/d/06ovvCpv], at openthisbook.com or on Amazon [https://a.co/d/06ovvCpv]. The world doesn’t need more headlines. It needs more human connection, more realness, and more of you. So keep dreaming, keep growing, and most of all—keep sharing. Because it’s all about the story. And your story is ready to be heard. Mentioned in this episode: Epic Stories is Part of the eWomenPodcastNetwork eWomenPodcastNetwork [https://epic-stories.captivate.fm/ewpn]

The Memory Board Test: Creating a Life Worth Remembering

IF SOMEONE MADE A PHOTO BOARD OF MY LIFE TODAY, WOULD I LIKE THE STORY THOSE PICTURES TELL? That was the question that hit me after a friend’s story about funeral photos got me thinking about the memories we’re capturing—and the lives we’re actually living. In this episode, I invite you to sit with me and take what I call the "Memory Board Test." Instead of aiming for perfect Instagram posts, I want us to focus on the small, authentic moments that truly define our lives. I share why I believe our legacy isn’t built on big milestones alone, but on countless ordinary days—a spontaneous kitchen dance, a heartfelt conversation, or that laugh-until-you-cry dinner with friends. I’m challenging you, as I challenge myself, to make sure we’re not just waiting for the “right” time but living intentionally, building a collection of real, meaningful memories. WHAT YOU’LL HEAR IN THIS EPISODE * The story that started it all: I recount a conversation about funeral photos and how it made me see our camera rolls in a new light (00:09–00:48). * My personal connection to photography: I talk about why freezing moments on film means so much to me, and what I learned as a scrapbooker and photographer (02:04). * Introducing the Memory Board Test: I explain how I came up with this test, and why I think everyone should try it—no doom or gloom, just motivation to live more fully now (03:44). * The importance of the little things: I reflect on how life’s epic moments are so often found in the tiniest experiences—road trips, sunsets, ordinary Tuesdays (04:53–05:17). * Why I stopped using the term 'bucket list': I share why I believe in creating a 'dream list' instead, focusing on what brings us to life right now, not just before it’s too late (06:18–06:41). * My ongoing challenge to myself (and you!): I walk you through my memory making challenge and invite you to join—one intentional, memory-board-worthy moment each month, just for you, not for social media (07:44–08:56). MY KEY TAKEAWAYS * I’m building my legacy every single day, one photo at a time—whether I realize it or not (06:50). * It’s the small, ordinary moments that often carry the most meaning in the end (05:01). * It matters that I choose to show up and be present, so my life tells a story I love (09:13). * “Epic” isn’t about having my name on a building or in history books—it’s about loving, connecting, taking risks, and being fully alive right where I am (09:13–09:46). * With every new day, I can change my story and become more intentional in the way I live (07:31). THE CHALLENGE: MAKE YOUR MEMORY BOARD I want you to join me this month. Here’s what I’m doing, and I hope you will too: * I created an album on my phone called “A Life Worth Remembering.” * Before this month is over, I’m making sure I intentionally create and capture at least one unforgettable, joy-filled, or meaningful moment—a memory-board-worthy photo just for me. * When I take that picture, I’m going to pause and ask: Is my life becoming a story I actually want remembered? If you give this a try, tag your moments with #epiclivingpodcast or come share your thoughts with me on Facebook (Epic Living with Jean) or at epiclivingwithjean.com [https://epiclivingwithjean.com]. I’ve also put together a free guide, "7 Ways to Start Living Epic," available on my site, plus info about my Dream Manager and Dream Activation programs if you’re ready for bigger change. Let’s stop waiting for the perfect time to live our stories. Our best memories are waiting to be made!
