Fairbanks Lutheran Podcast
On the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus, and at the turning of the year, we hear that God does not leave us to define our lives by regret, anxiety, or wishful hope. Instead, God gives us a name. In this sermon, we explore what it means that Jesus receives his saving name through obedience to the law and the shedding of blood, and how that same name is recalls us in baptism, covers us like a prayer shawl, and draws us into God's own family. As a new year begins, we discover that our confidence does not rest in how we feel or how the year unfolds, but in the promise that salvation is nearer than ever—because Jesus has come, and his holy name has been written over our lives.
