24 - The Taper | The Hardest Part of Marathon Training Was Trusting Myself

Months of training. Two unofficial half marathons hidden inside marathon prep. A 20-mile run on a cruise ship. Then suddenly… the plan tells you to stop pushing. In this episode of Field Notes from The Proving, I talk about something I never expected to be difficult: tapering. Cutting miles before my first marathon didn’t feel like recovery — it felt like losing fitness, losing momentum, and questioning whether I had done enough. I found myself doubting the AI training plan, searching for reassurance, and wondering if I had already messed everything up before race day. This is an episode about trust. Trusting the work. Trusting the process. And trusting the version of yourself built through months of discipline. Because sometimes the hardest part of proving yourself… is believing the proof already exists. Field Notes from The Proving are short reflections from inside the process of building a life that’s earned. Not perfected. Earned. Follow for episodes on running, discipline, perfectionism, ambition, identity, and becoming who you said you’d be. #marathontraining #thetaper #runningmotivation #discipline #mindset #marathonrunner #firstmarathon #runningjourney #selfimprovement #mentalstrength #endurancesports #perfectionism #highperformance #trusttheprocess #runnersoftiktok #halfmarathon #marathonprep #growthmindset #onlytheproven #theproven

episode 23 -The Sacrifice | The Hidden Cost of Discipline, Running & Always Chasing More artwork

23 -The Sacrifice | The Hidden Cost of Discipline, Running & Always Chasing More

What do you sacrifice when you become obsessed with proving something to yourself? In Episode 23 of Field Notes from The Proving, I reflect on completing a 20-mile run during a family cruise through Europe while training for my first marathon—and the realization that discipline sometimes comes with tradeoffs. This isn’t about regret. It’s about fairness, perfectionism, ambition, and questioning what happens when achievement starts competing with presence. I talk about: * Running 20 miles on a cruise ship during vacation * The feeling of becoming obsessed with goals * Why high performers struggle to fully relax * The difference between guilt and fairness * Marathon training, perfectionism, and identity * The hidden sacrifices behind discipline * Learning to balance ambition with real life Because sometimes the cost of proving yourself isn’t physical. Sometimes it’s moments. This is Field Notes from The Proving. Short reflections from inside the process of building a life that’s earned. Not perfected. Earned. The work continues.   #FieldNotesFromTheProving #TheProving #OnlyTheProven #MarathonTraining #RunningMotivation #Discipline #Perfectionism #Mindset #MentalStrength #RunnerLife #SelfImprovement #PersonalGrowth #Endurance #GrowthMindset #LifeLessons #HighPerformance #Achievement #RunningCommunity #Ambition #Podcast

22 - The Cruise | Running 20 Miles on a Cruise Ship Before My First Marathon

A vacation through Europe. London. France. Belgium. Netherlands. Germany. Family. Drinks. Laughs. Late nights. And in the middle of all of it… training for my first marathon. This episode of Field Notes from The Proving tells the story of running 20 miles on a cruise ship while docked in Hamburg, Germany — resetting a treadmill over and over again in 30-minute increments, converting kilometers to miles in my head, and refusing to break the plan no matter how inconvenient it became. Because sometimes discipline isn’t tested when life is hard. It’s tested when life is good. This wasn’t about motivation anymore. This was about becoming someone who follows through no matter what. episode 21 - The Training Takes Over | Marathon Training, Obsession & Sacrifice artwork

21 - The Training Takes Over | Marathon Training, Obsession & Sacrifice

At some point, training stops feeling like a hobby… and starts becoming your entire life. In Episode 21 of Field Notes from The Proving, I talk about the moment marathon training fully took over — the obsession, sacrifice, structure, and identity shift that happens when chasing a goal starts consuming everything around you. January in New Jersey was cold, dark, and brutal. But by this point, I had already signed up for my first marathon and knew there was no turning back. I ran another half marathon effort at race pace (1:51:49 / 8:31 pace), intensified training, and started realizing that every decision in life was beginning to revolve around running, recovery, discipline, and proving something to myself. This episode is about: * Marathon training obsession * Discipline and sacrifice * Running taking over your life * The psychology of endurance training * High performance identity * Not letting yourself down * Chasing impossible goals * Becoming addicted to progress This isn’t about perfection. It’s about proving to yourself that you’re capable of more than you thought possible. The work continues. #MarathonTraining #RunningMotivation #Discipline #SelfImprovement #Endurance #Mindset #MarathonRunner #HighPerformance #RunningLife #MentalStrength #TheProven #OnlyTheProven #FieldNotesFromTheProving #PersonalGrowth #Obsession #HalfMarathon #Transformation #SelfConcept #DistanceRunning #MarathonJourney

episode 20 - The January Discipline - Building Discipline in the Cold artwork

20 - The January Discipline - Building Discipline in the Cold

January isn’t where motivation shows up. It’s where discipline is built. In Episode 20 of Field Notes from The Proving, I break down the real start of my 2025 transformation — not the goals, not the declarations, but the systems that followed. After writing down my goals on December 31st, January became the proving ground. Cold mornings. Dark days. No shortcuts. This was the month where everything had to become real: * Building systems instead of relying on motivation * Committing to 12 half marathons + a full marathon * Running through brutal winter conditions in New Jersey * Hitting 11 miles by January 17th * Setting a “dangerous” goal: going from a 1:50 to a 1:30 half marathon January was about one thing: Proving that nothing would get in the way. Because if you can build discipline in January… you can build it any time of the year. This is not about perfection. This is about proof.   #OnlyTheProven #TheProving #Discipline #RunningJourney #MarathonTraining #HalfMarathon #SelfDiscipline #MentalToughness #Consistency #GoalSetting #Transformation #WinterTraining #NoExcuses #PersonalGrowth #Endurance #MindsetShift #HighPerformance #RunThroughIt #ProveItToYourself #QuietDiscipline
