Episode 193 - Conformed Unto His Death

Growth is often misunderstood. We tend to think it means adding more to our lives. More knowledge. More discipline. More accomplishments. But throughout the Scriptures, God often speaks of growth in a very different way. Sometimes growth begins with letting go. The farmer knows that a seed must first be buried before it bears fruit. Jesus taught that a grain of wheat must fall into the earth and die if it is to produce an abundant harvest. The Christian life follows that same pattern. Before there is resurrection, there is the cross. Before there is new life, there is surrender. That’s the path Paul describes in the final words of today’s verse.

Episode 192 - The Fellowship of His Sufferings

Most of us would gladly accept a life filled with blessings, victories, and peace. If given the choice, we would naturally avoid suffering whenever possible. Yet throughout the New Testament, we find an unexpected truth. God often accomplishes His deepest work in us during seasons we would never choose for ourselves. It’s in hardship that our faith is refined. In weakness that we learn to depend upon His strength. And in sorrow that we often experience His presence most profoundly. Paul understood this. As he spoke of knowing Christ, he didn’t separate the joy of the resurrection from the reality of the cross. He longed to know both.

Episode 191 - The Power of His Resurrection

When we hear the word “resurrection,” our thoughts naturally turn toEaster morning. The empty tomb. The stone rolled away. The joyful proclamation that Christ is risen. Those events stand at the very heart of our faith. But Paul reminds us that the resurrection is more than something thathappened long ago. It is a living reality. The same power that raised Christ from the dead continues to work in thelives of His people. It gives hope where there was despair. Strength where there was weakness. And new life where sin once held us captive. That is the power Paul longed to know more deeply. And it is the same power available to every believer today.

Episode 190 - That I May Know Him

If someone were to ask you, “What is the purpose of the Christian life?” How would you answer? Perhaps you would speak of loving God. Serving others. Growing in holiness. Sharing the Gospel. All of these are beautiful answers. Yet beneath each one lies something even deeper. Relationship. God didn’t create us simply to learn facts about Him. He created us to know Him. As Paul reflects on everything he has gained in Christ, he reveals the deepest desire of his heart. It’s not for greater influence. Not for greater knowledge. Not even for relief from his imprisonment. His greatest longing is wonderfully simple. “That I may know Him.”

Episode 189 - And Be Found In Him

There’s something within each of us that wants to prove our worth. We want to feel that we have earned our place. That we have done enough. That we somehow deserve God’s acceptance. Yet if we’re honest, we also know our own weaknesses. We know the words we wish we could take back. The opportunities we’ve missed. The sins we’ve confessed more than once. If our hope depended upon our own goodness, we would never find lasting peace. Paul knew this better than anyone. After describing all the accomplishments he once treasured, he now reveals what truly gives him confidence—not what he had done for God, but what God had done for him through Christ.
