Grateful For Freedom

Fireworks can light up the sky, but they can’t set a soul free. As America celebrates 250 years, we take an honest Independence Day pause to ask what freedom really is, where it comes from, and what God calls us to do with it. Speaking as a Christian, a pastor, and a combat veteran, Dr. Timothy Mann reminds us that liberty is a gift from the Lord (James 1:17) and a stewardship that can be used for righteousness or wasted in rebellion. We talk about gratitude without idolatry: honoring those who served, loving the nation where God has placed us, and refusing to confuse the Kingdom of God with the United States. We also draw a clear line between political liberty and spiritual freedom. A person can live in a free country and still be enslaved to guilt, shame, pride, lust, fear, or unbelief. Jesus’ words in John 8:36 cut through the noise: “If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” That’s the freedom no government can grant and no government can take away. We also wrestle with what makes a nation healthy. Proverbs 14:34 tells us righteousness exalts a nation, and sin brings reproach. Politics matter, prayer for leaders matters (1 Timothy 2:1–2), and religious liberty matters, but the church must not shrink its mission to partisan aims. A free country needs a faithful church, rooted in truth and anchored in grace, using freedom not as license but as a way to serve through love (Galatians 5:13). Can You Love Someone and Still Call It Sin?

The Bible’s teaching on sexuality gets argued about constantly, but the text itself makes a different kind of demand: be holy because God is holy. We walk through that claim from Leviticus 19 and Leviticus 18, where God’s people are called to a radically different sexual ethic rooted in creation, not in cultural trend. From there, we connect the dots to Genesis, showing why Scripture frames sexual intimacy as one man and one woman and why the prohibitions are stated without modern qualifiers meant to soften them.  Then we move into the New Testament to ask a practical question: does the church carry forward God’s moral law, or does it leave it behind? We point to Acts and then spend significant time in Romans 1, where Paul lays out a sobering progression of “exchanges” that begin with suppressing truth and end with dishonoring the body. We also talk plainly about the phrase “against nature,” what it claims about God’s design, and why the passage treats gender as central to the moral argument.  Finally, we face the pressure point many Christians feel today: the warning in Romans 1 about approving what God calls sin, even when it involves people we love. We hold that hard line alongside an equally clear hope: Scripture does not only expose sin, it points to the Savior, and repentance is not a side issue but a core part of the gospel that leads to real forgiveness and real change. Will You Trust the Text or the Trend?

The loudest voices don’t get to decide truth, and neither do our feelings. We’re asking a question that a lot of people debate but fewer people actually test against the text: what does the Bible really say about homosexuality, and what happens when God’s Word collides with the mood of the moment? We take you straight into Scripture with a clear, step-by-step survey that starts in Genesis and keeps moving until the New Testament leaves no doubt about what’s being taught.  We read Genesis 19 and trace why Sodom and Gomorrah become shorthand for extreme sin and real judgment, then we turn to Leviticus 18 and 20 and explain how the holiness of God frames Israel’s moral instruction. Are You Counting Your Cost Or Your Comfort?

A big crowd can follow Jesus for all kinds of reasons, but Luke 14 forces one unavoidable question: what does it actually cost to be His disciple? We sit with one of the hardest sayings Jesus ever delivered, the command to “hate” father and mother, spouse and children, even our own life. Taken superficially it sounds cruel, but the point is piercing and clarifying: our love for Christ must be so first that every other loyalty becomes second place by comparison.  To make the warning concrete, we connect Jesus’ words to Annie Dillard’s account of the John Franklin Arctic expedition, a tragic story of people who prepared for danger with the comforts of home. They carried luxuries where they needed necessities, and they paid for it. That becomes a mirror for modern Christianity, especially where faith is culturally acceptable and casual devotion feels normal. We talk honestly about how good gifts like family can become ultimate, and how our calendars and priorities reveal what we truly worship.  Then we face the second cost Jesus names: bearing the cross. The cross is not jewelry or décor; it is an instrument of death. Following Christ means ongoing self-denial, a willingness to suffer rather than quit, and what C.S. Lewis called “no half measures.” We also tackle the uncomfortable but biblical conclusion Jesus draws again and again: salvation and discipleship are not separate tracks. When Does Leaving A Church Become Obedience?

The question feels dangerous to ask, but avoiding it can quietly wreck your faith and your family: when is it time to leave a church? We go straight at the tension so many Christians live with, because we have seen both extremes do real harm. Some people treat church like a product, hopping from place to place for style, comfort, or a better experience. Others stay in spiritually unsafe churches out of fear, convinced that leaving is always disloyal.  We anchor the conversation in Acts 20:28 and the sobering truth that the local church is purchased with the blood of Christ. From there, we lay out seven clear, biblical reasons it may be time to leave a church: when the gospel is corrupted, when Scripture stops being the final authority, when persistent false doctrine is taught and leaders refuse correction, when sin is openly tolerated or celebrated, when leadership demands loyalty that conflicts with God’s commands, when God clearly leads you to another sound ministry, and when a pastor persistently neglects shepherding and refuses correction.  With equal conviction, we also name the reasons that are not biblical grounds for leaving: personal preferences, hurt feelings, personality conflicts, minor theological differences, one disappointing sermon, or conflict that should be worked through with humility and love.
