Episode 3 – When My Daughter Got Sick

In this episode of Gao’s English Journey, I talk about something that happened this week. My daughter got sick, so I needed to take a few days off from work to take care of her. This experience made me think about the reality many working mothers face in Japan. Japan is often described as a country with a declining birth rate, and creating a society where people can raise children more easily is an important topic. Episode 2 – Eight Minutes That Changed My Motivation

In this episode, I share a small but meaningful experience from this week. I practiced English on Duolingo every day for one year. I was proud of my consistency, but honestly, I did not feel that my speaking ability improved very much. So I decided to try something new. I joined a language exchange group on Facebook and looked for people who want to practice English and Japanese together. Two wonderful women replied to my post, and I had a short eight-minute conversation with one of them before picking up my daughter from daycare. Even though it was a very short conversation, it changed how I feel about learning English. For the first time, I felt that I wanted to learn English not just as a skill, but as a way to connect with people. After years of thinking about what I want to do, I finally decided to take a small step and start this podcast. In this episode, I share the story behind my nickname “Gao,” my life between Tokyo and the countryside, and how living near the ocean has quietly changed my perspective. This is not perfect English.
