The Meat Hound was not at her best but the crew was able to keep her tight and get her home thanks to the fighters. Episode 17 Whatever it is we are fighting for
The B-17 F Meat Hound and her crew fly a mission to Saint Nazaire May 1, 1943 when tragedy once again strikes the 423rd Grim Reapers Bomb Squadron after a navigational error. The Steele crew watch in horror as close friends are shot down in front of them. When a sister aircraft catches on fire the Meat Hound and the Steele crew fly protective cover doing all they can to help their friends get back to England. The Meat Hound and her crew are then personal witnesses to actions that lead to the first Medal of Honor in the Eastern Theater of Operations. Please join me on this fabulous journey.
Episode 16 The Whirlwind of Bremen
Join us for a story that ends with the geneses of a brilliant piece of entertainment history. The Meat Hound is under the command of Robert H. Smith and takes part in a maximum effort mission to Bremen, Germany April 17, 1943. The mission has the most disastrous impact on the 306th Bomb Group 423rd Bomb Squadron which results in them being taken offline through the rest of April 1943. Lt Steele sits this mission out but six regular crew members of the Meat Hound are flying. Back in the United States, one week later, Easter Sunday, April 25, 1943 scores of families were vigilant in prayer, hoping for the slightest pieces of information, while staring at maps of Germany to see where Bremen was located. This mission not only makes military history but it also sets the stage (literally) for entertainment history so please join me in the story of the Whirlwind of Bremen.
