How high is the bar for new anime?

Is the Bar Set high for anime now? Anime has evolved over the last decade from writing style, to animation style, story telling, fight cheorography, and much more in order to capture the attention of the masses who make up the anime community. This is also the major turning point for those who are new to anime as they get to test the waters and see the many various components that shape/make anime that they enjoy in the beginning stages of their journey. But is there are bar that is set too high for anime right now? Compared to the anime that we have seen in the beginning stages such as Cowboy Bebop, Inuyasha, Gundam, Naruto, and so much more during its infancy to the western world. It's safe to say that new anime has got to be top notch when it comes to capturing audiences these days.
