Episode 7: Devices, Relational Grief and Loneliness in Midlife

Dr Charlotte talks about the impact that the significant change in relating from our 20's to our 40's has had on our feelings of isolation and loneliness in midlife. As a generation of people who lived across two relational worlds, in childhood and adolescence we related in person, in real life, which felt normal to us, whereas now most relational transactions are mediated by a screen.

Episode 6: Devices displacing relational functioning

Dr Charlotte Armitage discusses how devices impact the parent child relationship and the subtle ways that being on a smart device can displace key relational behaviours in family life. Dr Charlotte discusses this in relation to teenagers and their relationship with the world around them, in context of recent research suggesting that by 2030 two thirds of teenagers will have a mental health problem.
