Marika received her calling as a seer and began her training nn ancient medicine of plants, and other practices at the age of five until her mother passed away. She teaches those who wish to learn because this knowledge no longer transfers to offspring or generational as the children move on to other careers to survive. The traditional way of living for indigenous people was greatly interrupted and families have lost their practices, and can hardly survive in the new world. The oral knowledge of ancient medicine is over 10,000 years old and contains information of countless plants to deal with viruses new and old and many other diseases, plus other practices for healing. This slow of ancient knowledge is slowing dying benefits all people of the planet, not just native people. Pharmaceutical companies know this and will find answers for the general population in traditional knowledge such as the discovery of medicine for malaria. Mainstream science could take 100's a year more to know what plants can do for us all, and is contained in these shamanic healers' work who are dying out. She also addresses how these healers can heal others when dealing with mental illness or evil deeds, and why this exists according to earth medicine. Guest Bio: Marika Alvarado is a Lipan Mescalero Apache, a direct descendant of generations of Medicine Women: traditional native healers of the body, midwives, and plant medicine. She was honored with a Lakota name, Pejuta Wakan Yuha Mani Win, which translates as, "She who carries the sacred medicine." Being given a Lakota name is an honor, reaffirming the Condor-Eagle prophecy that says, when the eagle of the North and the condor of the South fly together, the Earth will awaken. Her mother, grandmother, and aunt handed the medicine down to her. Marika’s family and extended family were migrant farm workers. They traveled from Texas to the north, and they always worked. They followed the seasons because it was their tradition to keep moving. They were raised to be in harmony with the Earth, the seasons, and the plants. The plants provided them with their daily living, and the plants healed them and those who traveled with them. The healers in her family tended to the sick, the injured, and they cared for the women when they were with child and when they gave birth. When Marika was five years old, her grandmother called her to her side and let Marika know that she was the one to carry their Medicine forward, because it was Marika who had the calling to teach future generations and anyone who had the spiritual dedication and heart to learn and use the Medicine to help others. As a child, she was taught the traditional way, as her family tended to those who came to them in need. It was then she learned how important ceremony, prayer and intention is in the healing process. She also learned to listen to the Spirit of the plants around her. She grew up listening to the song of the Earth. Today Marika is the first of the native healers in Texas to work in a medical clinic known as Dell Medical School, where she continues her traditional healing work.
