Descripción

In the second part of my conversation with Bigi we talked about how and when children learn about embodied consent from their parents and care-givers. How do we enable young people to learn about sex and sexual consent, without the harmful lessons of shame or fear we might have learned from previous generations? You can find out more about Bigi and BG Parenting on the web - here is a blog post inspired in part by our conversation: https://bgparenting.co.uk/shall-we-talk-about-consent/ Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/i-do-consent [http://supporter.acast.com/i-do-consent]. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. Consensual choreography

Today's guest is Sandrine Monin, choreographer and founder of Unbound Dance Theatre. Sandrine's 2023 project Feathers, integrating visually impaired dancers led to an exploration of touch, and a realisation that the professional dance industry has often shown little consideration for consent and bodily autonomy. We explore this in conversation, and notice how work like hers is beginning to change the working culture in professional dance. Taking on these challenges and finding ways to work more consensually has been rewarding not only in terms of the healing and inclusion experienced by the dancers and participants but also in terms of the artistic excellence that has emerged from the process. There is lots to learn for dance and arts professionals, and there are huge parallels with all kinds of generational healing. You can find out more about Sandrine's work here https://www.sandrinemonin.com/ or https://www.instagram.com/sandrinemonin/ [https://www.instagram.com/sandrinemonin/] and the Feathers project here: https://www.sandrinemonin.com/feathers-1 [https://www.sandrinemonin.com/feathers-1] Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/i-do-consent [http://supporter.acast.com/i-do-consent]. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. Consent, schools and challenging rules

This was a lively (and slightly sweary in places) conversation with Heidi about the ways standards in schools and mainstream education authorities (in the UK context) can become coercive and even harmful for some young people and their families. Heidi describes herself as a late-identified, neurodivergent adult - she is a public speaker, advocate, author, podcaster, and parent to an Autistic/ADHD teenager. Author of best selling book "Your Child Is Not Broken", Heidi's passion for empowering families in their fight to secure suitable education for their children and young people comes from the challenges she worked through with her own son. She founded EOTAS MATTERS in 2019, to work with families so children can be supported by knowledgeable, confident adults who know how to get their voices heard. You can find out more about Heidi and her work, and where to get her book, here: https://www.heidimavir.com/about This episode is a little bit longer than usual - I think it's worth it! Parenting with consent - part 1 of 2

I'm joined by Bigi who is a parenting coach, and a passionate advocate for approaches that centre the consent and personal agency of children and young people. We had a conversation full of ideas for fresh approaches and thoughts about the value of modelling consent in parent/care-giver and child relationships. There's so much to consider on this theme, we ran into a second episode. You can find Bigi's coaching practice and writing at BG Parenting on the web at https://bgparenting.co.uk/about/ Bigi refers to: * Libby Sinback podcast episode: https://open.spotify.com/episode/0C25YcJnc5ry072evyRJj0?si=IasCrf3yS6iSiakvHmjJQg * Dr Laura Markham at Aha Parenting who coined the term Peaceful Parenting: http://ahaparenting.com/ Bigi also recommends: * John Holt - author of works on child-led learning. * Dr Dan Siegel - an advocate for child, with work based on brain science and child development.
