I’m on the phone!
⚠️ Content Warning Content Warning: This episode contains discussion of purity culture, predatory behavior within religious systems, and child sexual abuse. Listener discretion is advised, especially for survivors of abuse. This week we begin a new series exploring how purity culture shaped — and in many ways stole — our sexual identity. For those of us raised in high-control religious environments, sexuality wasn’t something we were allowed to understand or explore safely. Instead, we were handed a framework built on shame, fear, and rigid gender roles. In this episode, we ask four foundational questions: • What did purity culture promise us? • What did we learn about our bodies? • What were we taught about desire? • And what did it actually cost us? As the conversation unfolds, we also discuss the deeper systems at play — including how purity culture can create environments where predatory behavior is minimized and victims are silenced. This series isn’t about sensationalism. It’s about understanding the messages we absorbed and beginning the work of reclaiming identity, safety, and agency in our own bodies. If you grew up with purity culture, this conversation may feel uncomfortably familiar. Follow along as we continue unpacking how these systems shaped us — and what healing can look like on the other side. 🔗Josh Harris apology Follow us: Instagram → https://www.instagram.com/imonthephonepodcastmoms?igsh=a2xreGk2NTJ4OXQz&utm_source=qr Facebook → https://www.facebook.com/share/1S1scPxDMp/?mibextid=wwXIfr ☕ Support the podcast: ko-fi.com/imonthephonepodcast #PurityCulture #ReligiousTraumaRecovery #PurityCultureRecovery #Exvangelical #DeconstructionJourney #ReligiousTrauma #HealingAfterReligion #SexualShameRecovery #FaithDeconstruction #WomenHealing #TraumaInformed #HealingOutLoud #PodcastConversations
