The Oil Sands of Our Lives

interVivos and CIC Edmonton Present: The Oil Sands of Our Lives Like the oil sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives. Did you hear that Jennifer Aniston is making a special appearance on Days of Our Lives? Do you like the Hortons or the Bradys? Is Stefano alive or dead? Like The Days of Our Lives, Alberta may be going through its own drama soon as the good times can't last forever with another Global Recession looming. Join interVivos and the Canadian International Council-Edmonton (CIC) as we try to answer a variety of questions over beers and appies at the Common. Our experts will tackle questions like: How can we maintain our current lifestyle without forsaking our future? What is Alberta doing to ensure its economic future? Do we focus on selling our oil without diversifying our economy? Do we keep the upgrading process in Canada or do we export the raw material and lose revenue? Is it best to stop refining all together and move to renewable sources as soon as possible? What is our role as citizens in maintaining our legacy? Should we worry about other countries stealing our advantage and compromising our future? Is Marlena really possessed? Okay, maybe not that last one! Panelists: Anne McLellan is a Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence at the Alberta Institute for American Studies and is a member of various corporate and community boards. McLellan was a four-term Member of Parliament for Edmonton Centre and served as Deputy Prime Minister of Canada. Most recently, she worked on the Premier's Council for Economic Strategy. Satya Das advises public and private sector leaders on policy, strategy, governance and navigating complex issues. As an eminent opinion leader, Das is a sought-after commentator on air, in print, and on panels. Das is co-founder and principal of Cambridge Strategies Inc. Most recently, he wrote the bestselling book Green Oil. Dr. Wenran Jiang is Associate Professor of Political Science and former founding Director and Inaugural Mactaggart Research Chair of the China Institute at the University of Alberta. He is a Senior Fellow of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada and a Special Advisor on China to the U.S. and Canada based Energy Council. The author of The Dragon Returns: Canada in China's Quest for Energy Security, he is currently completing a book on energy security and Chinese foreign policy. Join us for this panel discussion graciously moderated by CBC Radio's Adrienne Lamb.
